This is hugely helpful, thank you so much!

    Burst eardrums

Does anyone know or have experience with a candidate who's burst their eardrum and whether that disqualifies them medically? This would be the second time it has occurred in 3 years and is due to a less flexible eardrum because of scar tissue formation after the insertion of tubes as an infant...

    Summer Cruises

Son did mountain warfare between 3C and 2C (screener required), a variety of LRECs pop up too--YPs are not mandatory.

    Application questions

Just met with an admissions rep today. Unfortunately, can't answer #1. CFA is important; maxing the events gives you a bump in your overall score. Letters of rec (other than those from your math and LA teachers) are important only if they highlight something about you that's important (like...

contact with Blue and Gold officer

BGOs will meet with potential candidates before their senior year to help answer any questions they have about the Academy, Navy, application process, etc. So it you want to make contact to introduce yourself and ask questions, go ahead. :)

Do you have access to an assisted pull up bar--our YMCA has one. Also, we installed a pull up bar in the stairwell of our basement--a sports store should have one--Sports Authority was where we got ours. Do pull ups throughout the day if you can get access to a bar. FYI--DS went from 1 pull...

    Phone line

All depends on where in Bancroft the mid is as to whether you get service (we have T-Mobile as well). A blue tooth helps (leave the phone on the window sill) and OOVOO is also a good option.

    Plebe Summer Contact

It's those 1 minute showers that are the culprit--as well as Maryland's weather.... :)

    Naval Acdemy Club worth joing?

Depends--are you local enough that you would be able to take advantage of the cost of joining? You can eat lunch there without being a member--check it out and see what you think.

    Logistics for I-Day (For Parents)?

We drive on every time we visit although finding parking can be a challenge during the AC year. It'll give you lots of flexibility for the day. :)

    Naval Acdemy Club worth joing?

Assume you mean the Parents Club in your state? If so, it'll vary by state. Some states have more than one club due to the number of mids in the state, some clubs are very active and do a lot to support the mids (Maryland and New Jersey feed the brigade every home football game), some might...

    Nuclear Engineering

From hubby who was a nuclear engineer major at RPI (eons ago...) and then went to nuclear power school and on to subs. The classes you'll take as a nuclear engineering major at the Naval Academy will probably give you a better baseline of information than many of the other majors at USNA. The...

It may be Way Too Early to be asking these questions...

Lots and lots of good advice above, especially not rushing through the sequence of the math curriculum and seeking leadership roles, so I won't expand on it. Working during the summer (grew up on a farm and baled hay all summer too--builds good upper body strength for those push ups and pull...

    Senior Course Selection- Science!?!?!

Lots of good advice in the responses. Chemistry--required of all plebes--tends to be a tough class and taking AP Chem could result in validation or at the very least provide a strong familiarity with the material. Senior year classes are indeed considered. We had a candidate who took few...

    Second semester college grades

As usnabgo08 said, it depends on the course. The technical courses you take at USNA (calc, chem, physics) as well as English need to be validated through tests. Other classes can be validated through AP scores or through the appropriate academic department, who'll look at the syllabus, your...

Fellow Applicants, what's your plan B?

Many eons ago my husband did NROTC at RPI and a 2016 mid was a re-applicant also doing NROTC at RPI-- is really burning it up at USNA now!
