Sun 11/19/23 SF Bay Area OPINFO on USS Hornet

I'm finding that word isn't getting out to some of my schools, so I hope it's OK to post here. If you live in the San Francisco bay area, USNA 417 BGOs would like to invite to an OPINFO event, where you can meet mids home for Thanksgiving, meet BGOs excited to answer your questions, and get...

Experience w/water polo camp (SEAL or regular)?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with USNA’s water polo camp recently, or the SEAL version in particular? My oldest did the camp almost 10 years ago, and it was a great chance to see USNA amd get a feel for the school. We’re from CA, so I think it was also nice to see...

Questions about the U.S. Navy SEALs

Yup, you did. When I showed up, it SBU, when I left it was SBT. We all thought it was pretty lame, and our platoon joked that now were "Team Guys". When I'm in charge, they'll go back to Special Boat Units!

Questions about the U.S. Navy SEALs

My perspective is from the mid-2000's, but my peers were the O2/O3 frogs, not O4+. I suppose I'm parroting what I heard from the JOs back then. Thanks for keeping me on track w/OP's question though. I think for the sake of brevity in my previous post, I sacrificed clarity; it seemed to me...

Questions about the U.S. Navy SEALs

Here's what I saw on the O-side: Because the jobs after platoon commander (O-3) were not usually highly regarded, attrition was usually pretty high. That meant a lot of those staff jobs were hard to fill. So the Navy's answer was to pump a few more ensigns through BUD/S. This meant some...

    Navy Officer Candidate School

I think it also depends on what community you're thinking of. I was in Army ROTC and got sucked into the Navy's nuclear program/OCS. I think the Navy's always hungry for nukes, so with decent grades in your comp sci major, they'd probably be knocking on your door.

Questions about the U.S. Navy SEALs

I was in the Special Boat Unit, and in the final portion of our work-ups we were more-or-less partnered up with a SEAL platoon, which we then deployed with. Here are my observations on the lifestyle: -In general, your training goes in phases: professional development (schools like HALO or...

    Navy BGO

Hi, my dad was an infantry officer during Vietnam, and I had always wanted to go the USMA, but somehow got discouraged and never applied. I started with Army ROTC, then met a Navy Nuclear recruiter and went through OCS. I was a surface nuke, then did my second tour with the Special Boat Units...
