    FOX RIVER SOCKS...

Yes Black Fox Rivers are fine. Tan/Green Fox Rivers are just a lot more common. West Point goes by the same standards as the Army, so uniform questions are usually easily answered by referring to AR 670-1.

    FOX RIVER SOCKS...

You will want the tan or green Fox River socks to be worn only with your OCP's. Socks for low quarters are limited to black dress socks.

    ACT/SAT with writing

I believe they take your highest ACT scores out of all the chances you've tried so that should be okay. I only took it once so I may be wrong. Can anyone verify this?

    R-day? carry a backpack??

If you can fit everything in a backpack, then yes. Whatever is easiest to lug around for the morning. I wouldn't worry too much about the "quick transition to an issued duffel bag."

    Failing the validation exams intentionally

If you are wanting to become a STEM major, you want as solid as a foundation in math as possible. Taking more advanced math will seem more difficult initially than what your classmates are taking, but it will pay dividends when you are taking actual difficult STEM courses. I did Electrical...

    Leaving my Girlfriend before R-Day

Don't be like my roommate who spent 4 years with a girl, became engaged to her, ranked toward last in our class because he spent all night talking to her every night, ended up with a terrible branch and a terrible post, and then break up within 2 months of graduation. He'll now have a tough time...

    Advice for Beast

Nick and Scoutpilot have great advice! I would add one point to their advice: Just do the right thing. I was told this by a graduate (a general officer) before I attended West Point and now I truly understand what he means by this simple statement. You will know what right looks like, and if...

    Separation appeal USMA

The TAC Team is technically the first-line supervisor for the cadet. They have a large say in issues like this because of their everyday encounter with cadets in company. With that said, they can determine subjectively whether a cadet is fit to lead America's sons and daughters. Therefore, a TAC...

    Seriously Need An Answer

Two things together that will make West Point STEM classes EASY: 1. The desire to learn 2. Time management This is coming from someone who had below a 3.5 GPA in high school (a very terrible high school at that, took minimal AP classes) and who took many years off in the Army before returning...

    Daily life as a Plebe?

    This is a rough, average schedule. 0615 - Wake Up 0635 - Call "minutes" for breakfast formation 0650 - Breakfast formation 0700-0715 - Breakfast 0730 - 1155 - Classes (maybe an hour off) 1205 - Lunch formation/minutes 1215-1230 - Lunch 1250-1345 - Comms/Deans hour (Time for labs, briefs, etc)...

    Competitiveness decreasing? (2017/2018 profile)

Class of 2017 - 188 Females Admitted (15.8% of class) Class of 2018 - 267 Females Admitted (21.8% of class) A 6% increase in females admitted in the relatively smaller pool of applicants is definitely statistically significant. Another interesting statistic that was pointed out earlier in...

    Patiently waiting

I agree with mom3boys. She needs to work on getting the ACT up or scoring well on the SATs. I had a 29 composite on the ACTs (took it only once) as a direct admit, which I believe is around the average score. She seems to be doing well in the other areas, so I would shoot for at least a 27...

    Urgent and Interesting Situation

I would say go for it if you want to serve our nation. There are some minor differences between being an Army officer and an Air Force officer culture-wise, but the work/life style is very similar. Unless you only want to fly jets (in which USNA is a very viable option as well), what an Air...

    Competitiveness decreasing? (2017/2018 profile)

There was a question asked and this is my hypothesis to answer that question. I could be right, I could be wrong, and scoutpilot summarized perfectly on how I came to this conclusion. Thank you for those who took the time to analyze my statement a little deeper. I apologize if I offended anyone...

    Competitiveness decreasing? (2017/2018 profile)

The very large increase in females in the Class of 2018 can attribute to this. The pool of female candidates are less competitive than the males. Naturally, averages will decrease when choosing less qualified individuals based solely on gender.

    Clubs and Competitive Sports

Very early in the school year you will have a "Club Night" where most teams and clubs have a booth and you go around signing their roster if you are interested in trying out and getting any questions answered. Until then, I suggest focusing on preparing for CBT and not worrying about what...

    Combat Weapons Team/Rifle/Pistol

Really for most of the competitive teams, if not all, it will be a lot of PT, so being in top notch shape will always make things easier in situations such as tryouts.

Stuff to bring my cadet on A-Day?

Only problem is that you can not use this calculator on the WPRs (tests). While it may be helpful doing homework, it may be wise to 'train how you fight' instead and use the simple calculator that you'd use on tests.

Stuff to bring my cadet on A-Day?

A new pair of running shoes potentially since Beast may wear them out. Clothes and books will be covered so I wouldn't worry about that. I'd say a large supply of snacks (preferably nutritional) always made Plebe year better due to the meals of the day potentially not being adequate.
