Thanks to all who have posted here and shared their knowledge espically Clarkson for his "insider" information. Learning of the many pitfalls that await our DS and DD's move our Plan B up to Plan A. That helped when Plan B (ROTC fed. scholarship) was not offered. He did receive the offer of a...

you have my families best wishes and warmest thoughts. your objective to help other famiies understand what can lie ahead of them is selfless to say in the least. I for one, am better informed and able to advise my DS on some of the pitfalls that are out there. if there is one thing...
That's why you should choose a school like Clarkson that has all their training resources within close proximity!!!
Great idea! Now move Clarkson to the midwest and DS could be first in line to sign-up.
:eek:stay tuned? you bet I will! But that's me.....now the DS? His mind is more on how he will do at the wrestling conference tournament and if he will go on to state....and next is "if he will get a day off before track starts?" I admire his calm or maybe its - worry about what he can control...
excellant posts! I have saved these to show DS them.... if/when he gets a scholarship. it drives home the point that this is truly serious stuff. "It's not T-ball anymore, Dorothy"
this is just plain wrong-something is not adding up. I could not let my son take a scholarship at a high priced college if this would be hanging over his head..I can understand (somewhat) if my son would screw up...but not if he was within the guidelines. Far better to take the Merit...
weird thing....DS is DODmerb qualified for USMA. He was passed over 1st board. Today he gets notification from DOD dated 1/12/12 that he is now ROTC qualified. It could just be a coincedence but it does make the heart race a little bit. time will tell.
The website was running on Sat. night but it changed sometime between Sat. night and Sunday morning when I checked at 8:00a.m. Who knows what it means but we will find out. Tomorrow is a Federal holiday but does the Army have the day off?
I know what you mean about the money thing! I am also surprised at how chill DS is. I guess it's because he knows what he will do (depending on hearing from remaining school). To him, if he doesnt get accepted at remaining school, he will just attend his next favorite-they all have ROTC. His...
We are waiting too! Must say that DS is chill about it all. I'm not! Getting ready for finals and tournament is more what he is thinking of. DS is accepted to six schools with merit scholarships from them-deferred at U of I (?) and waiting for one more. He will be joining ROTC regardless of...
thanks all, I never thought about being able to accept both. I will have to check on that. DS has been passed by DODMERB for WP but still worried about injuries (none yet but plays 3 sports). Keeping the merit and maybe (if gets one) using ROTC for room and board might be good idea.
He wants to serve, if he were to be told to "go to Korea" his bags would be packed. The question was more, if he turns down a merit scholarship and accepts a ROTC scholarship to the same school but then somehow loses the ROTC scholarship-he would have no scholarship? It seems accepting the...
After reading the posts the last few months about all the downsizing, I was/am wondering if DS will even get a offer in Jan. Now reading all the ways he could lose a ROTC scholarship, I have to question if it is worth it to give up the numerous merit scholarship offers DS has received to take...
Hey Josh,
My son has been received any word on a scholarship but he may wind up going to Wheaton with Wheaton being the host school. He has gotten some great scholarship offers from some of the feeder schools to wheaton and may go to one of them or U of I. It really depends on where he...
Everybody has been saying about mid-nov. according to last year. We are in same place as you....waiting to hear anything. I do wonder if we will hear a little eariler. Last year the board met Oct. 28-30 and people starting hearing back around the 15th which is only a little over two weeks...
I know that if you are awarded a scholarship, CC will inform you, of the colleges that you have listed, can the scholarship be used at. You have 30 days to accept or decline. At the 30 day limit, do you tell CC what college you are going to go to also? Just thinking that one school will not...
