AFROTC- graduate degree, how does educational delay work?

My Ed Delay Experience I was an AFROTC Scholarship cadet many years ago, then attended law school on an educational delay. My experience was different than the response posted above. In my case I received my commission the same week as I graduated with my degree in Aerospace Engineering...

Nominations vs. Appointments: What are the numbers?

Thanks so much for your insight! Although our son has not been offered an appointment, he has been really going round and round on the question of ROTC versus USMA lately. I think USMA is still first choice, but the gap between USMA an ROTC has narrowed considerably. He is very excited about...

Is this appropriate for a congress man

Maybe Not You have some very laudable goals for your life. But I would be concerned if I was the congressman considering an appointment for you. The mission of West Point is: It seems that many (if not most) of your goals are focused on life after, or outside of, service as an Army officer...

    Updating Activities and Awards

High Interest level is Good Too! Just an aside - At the very least, updating your file with new information accomplishes a couple of things. It shows your continued high level of interest, and it puts eyeballs on your file. Both are good, even if the updated information isn't earth-shaking.

    Question regarding W.P. SLS

The SLS application is VERY basic. My son and I were surprised when we had finished the application last year. We expected to have to supply much more information. Basic personal information, test scores (PSAT is sufficient, SAT or ACT works too), GPA, class rank, basic outline of activities...

    Boys State question

Boys State vs. Eagle Scout What we do know about Boys State & Eagle Scout is that USMA widely publicizes the numbers of cadets in each entering class with either honor. Which means that any prospective cadet should seriously consider pursuing one or the other, or both, since this is one of the...

    CA senator noms?

Campbell, CA-48 Our son received his nomination to USMA from Congressman Campbell, CA-48, on Friday (11/25/2011). No word from our Senators, but California is so big they do not contact you at all unless you make the cut for an interview. I don't expect we will make that cut, and are very...

    Most Scholarships 3-Yr This Cycle?

4-Yr Room & Board for 3-yr AD Cadets Just to follow up: My son and I visited our offered school recently and met with an admissions officer while there. This school DOES extend the Room & Board offer to cover all four years even for cadets enrolling in the ROTC program as 3-yr AD. That...

Nominations vs. Appointments: What are the numbers?

Thanks. Hard to believe 250 candidates would turn down an appointment. But those 250 may be the key to my son's chances.

Nominations vs. Appointments: What are the numbers?

My son just received yesterday the letter from our Congressman (Campbell, CA-48) offering him a nomination for USMA entering class of 2012. We are very proud of our son for this accomplishment! Our son's file is otherwise complete, and he is medically and physically qualified. The question...

    DODMERB and ROTC Scholarship Selection

Will We Need to DODMERB Again? My son was medically qualified by DODMERB as part of his USMA application. Will he have to go through the process again now that he has been offered an ROTC scholarship? Or will ROTC simply accept the previous DODMERB qualification? It would seem silly to...

    Most Scholarships 3-Yr This Cycle?

Yes, we have been in touch with the ROO by e-mail and he does have a person in admissions he works with. He is saying that if we get our school application in ASAP he can basically "walk it through" admissions. He seems very confident that the scholarship award will carry a LOT of weight with...

    ROTC Scholarship Awards

HendrikKim - That's a great question! We have been wondering too whether West Point and the ROTC folks are coordinating at all, or operate completely independent/ignorant of each other? My son was awarded an ROTC scholarship this round, and we are wondering if we should read anything into that...

Converting 3 yr AD to 4 yr scholarship

Great Advice! Thanks for that nugget! I don't think it will help us out, since my son is determined to leave the state for school, but it may prove very useful for some.

    AROTC Letter Details

Glad to read that letters are arriving! I am so glad to read that folks are getting their official letters now. We have been waiting anxiously. Since we are on the west coast, I expect we may have to wait until Tuesday or so. It's also good to know that there seems to be a December 1...

Will changing high school math class affect scholarship?

I Hope You're Right Thanks for the moral support! I hope you're right. This thing feels so precarious until we get the paperwork done. I know we are more nervous than we need to be, but can't help it.

Will changing high school math class affect scholarship?

My high school senior son has been notified that he has been awarded a 3-yr AD AROTC scholarship, and we are waiting for the official letter to arrive in the mail. (As an aside - Are folks getting their actual letters yet?) But we have a question: My son has been struggling (really...

    Most Scholarships 3-Yr This Cycle?

Well, in one sense it looks like our choice is pretty easy. It looks like we are only being offered one school. The good news is I believe our son will be a strong candidate for admission there.
