    Glasses during CBT

e I wear glasses for reading. I don't know if that means I will have to wear my issued glasses at all times or at my discretion. I wasn't really sweating it...figured I will be told either way. But how critical is it to have an eyeglass strap? Do I risk losing my glasses without one?

    Nomination Letter Request Format

Good point, Vista. I should also mention that candidates should make every attempt to go to their MOCs info sessions (usually offered in the area). It was a good chance to meet the MOC's nomination coordinator(s), and even the MOC themself in some cases, and ask some pertinent questions.

    Nomination Letter Request Format

Are you asking how to request a nom from an MOC? There's no letter involved. You just fill out an aplication similar to a college app (basic info, couple of essays, send in your scores and transcripts, recommendations, get called for an interview (hopefully)). Go to the websites for your...

question on how to choose S.A. & NOM

I heard the same thing about how my MOCs did their noms... but I pursued both USMA and USNA because I heard that story "around' but not directly from their nomination coordinators. I ended up getting nominations and appointments to both USMA and USNA. I chose USMA (which was really my...

And besides, Zuckerberg will sell it to them if they can't hack in on their own. He needs the money. Bad.

What is the $$$ Value of the appointment to an Academy

My MALO came to my HS and made a presentation of my USMA Appointment during our senior awards night. He gave a very nice and compelling overview of what attendance at West Point meant, and did mention during it that the value of the education "goes well beyond the $300,000 scholarship value...

    CFA basketball throw

Search this forum for "basketball". Also look in the other SA forums. There are lots of really good postings describing techniques and approaches to training yourself for the basketball throw. Simply throwing as hard as you can will only work if you are Hulk-like. Good luck.

    Congressional Academy Day

Not a bad idea. For what it's worth, I went to no Academy Days (just never fit with my schol and/or sports schedules) and I got two noms, one frmo each of my Senators (1 to USMA & 1 to USNA). I did, however, make pre-emptive contact with one of the MOC offices to get info, etc, from the MOC's...

    Trips home from West Point

I did hear that some Parent's Groups organize charter buses to drive cadets from WP to designated drop-off points, but I assume those are probably mainly Northeast affairs given the time to drive much further than that. The cost is supposed to be reasonable and is door to door to WP each way...

    Plebes to be scrambled

Not trying to vector this thread off in a direction unrelated to the scrambling discussion, but I'm wondering, BigNick, what you are referring to when you mention "loss of Yuk privileges". Has there been some change in that area for this year's Plebe class and beyond? Just wondering.

negative reaction with applying to s.a.

I've gotten a few disparaging responses over the past year and a half as I went through this process. Everything from "Oh well, college isn't for everyone... I'm sure you'll do fine in the Army" "But you got into <insert the names of a few top-25 colleges here>. Why would you want to go...

Same highschool 2 yrs in a row?

Just tell the 2016 guy to do well his plebe year, so admissions gets the idea that your school rocks when it comes to producing USMA cadets. :shake: By the way, I was going to wish the Cubs luck based on your moniker, but based on the standings it looks like another one of those years...

    Self motivation

@Mman5247: You don't say how old your child is (maybe a sophomore? junior?) nor which academy he/she is looking at. But if it is USMA then get your hands on the National Geographic DVD series "Surviving West Point" and watch it with them. I went though a period of utter fear based mainly on not...

    Cell Phones at West Point

Is Skype allowed? OK, so (a) no land lines and (b) cell phone reception is Second World quality in some areas... which I guess means this thread needs a nudge to an orthogonal path: Can anyone comment on what's the policy at USMA towards cadets using Skype or ooVoo or any other video...

    Plebe Year Classes Question

I poked around a bit trying to find information on the USMA website about picking courses... I should have just come here first and found the answer above which is, basically, "don't sweat it since you have little choice except to validate what you can, and then take your hands off the steering...

    West Point Admissions Question

What did I get out of applying to USMA? @BarettaM59, yours was the "Eureka!" comment here for me. Having to go through the SA application process made me gain so much on a personal level that even if I had not gotten my appointment, I can safely say it made me a better person for now and the...

    Nominations

Get your application in as early as you can (some item will be the "long pole"... for me it was that I had to wait for school to reopen in September to get an official transcript). All MOC's have different applications and different deadlines -- it is not a cut and paste process. It took...
