Before your son worries about IFS or UPT he needs to get the rated slot. My opinion is the more flying hours helps the PCSM score, which is a major factor when the Board is awarding pilot slots. Best of luck.

Seems to be a lot of variation in the % of EA's given by Det. I've seen 63% up to 100% for Det 910. Is this normal? Also, any indication how the AS500's are doing this year, figure there are a lot given the rough year it was last year.

Does anyone have a history of the EA allocation percentages? 2014 was 60%, my understanding was that 2013 back to 2011 were in the 90+% area, 2010 was low. If someone has that data it could help decisions about going AS500 and trying again next year. No guarantees, but is a reference point...

Point well made, however as PIMA said, with the binge / purge or feast / famine cycles, if you REALLY want to be an AFO vs another branch, taking a shot via a 500 is an option. Maybe the kid gets lucky and there is a binge next year and he gets his dream. Would like to hear about other options...

My DS's Det had about 50% get EA, at least 4 scholarship did not get EA.

I think chance for AS500 is Det specific. Just spoke with my DS and his Det told him that was an option for him.
