DoDMERB was everything I expected it to be

My 19 years of army service certainly prepared me for the complete bureaucracy of DoDMERB. My son was selected in the first round for a four year army ROTC scholarship at his school of choice. He was DQd due to an ACL injury in the fall. After many attempts on our part over the last seven...

AROTC, how are you first notified?

For my son, it was updated on the portal 3 or 4 days before receiving the letter in the mail. Basically the portal just said he had been awarded a scholarship at his first choice. The letter listed all the schools the scholarship was offered at and length of scholarship.

    Meniscus Tear

We are currently going through this with my son who had a partial meniscectomy and ACL repair. The standard for a DQ on the meniscus is less than 6 months for a meniscal repair and less than 3 months for a partial meniscectomy.

    AROTC question for PMS

I think you are correct about AROTC instead of the actual ROTC department of the chosen school. The letter says the program to which you have applied will review the file.

    AROTC question for PMS

Enrollment of the school, not the ROTC department.

    AROTC question for PMS

Total enrollment is less than 15,000. I don't know if that is small or not, but it's certainly not big.

    AROTC question for PMS

His acceptance letter was sent back November 22. How long should it take before the school is aware of his acceptance? As far as who is the best entity to inquire about the waiver, we have yet to get anything solid from anyone. DoDMERB says the waiver is initiated by the individual ROTC...

    AROTC question for PMS

He accepted his first choice, which is why he called them. It seems hard to believe they wouldn't know who they offered and who had accepted. Do they not get any notice of acceptance?

    AROTC question for PMS

My son was offered a 4 yr scholarship at all of his 3 choices. After the physical he was DQ'd, which we knew would happen. He received a letter from DoDMERB saying the programs he applied to would automatically review the file for waiver consideration. My son called the ROTC department of...

    October 15, 2012 AROTC Board

My son got his letter today. It is for a 4 year sholarship. The website had only his first choice listed, but the letter indicates he can choose from any of the three choices he applied for. We are very excited. Thanks for all the help we have gotten here. I know as we start the waiver...

3 year vs 4 year scholarship

Sorry for such a basic question, but I have searched and could not find anything specific to a 3 year scholarship awarded to a high school student. Pretty much everything I found was for the 4 year scholarship or 3 year scholarship for a college student. What does the cadet have to do during...

My son had ACL reconstruction surgery last month and he received an ROTC scholarship this week...

My son had ACL reconstruction surgery last month and he received an ROTC scholarship this week. I know we will have to try to get a waiver. Was there anything special you had to do to get the waiver or have the surgeon do? I am sure by the time school starts next year he will be back to full...

    October 15, 2012 AROTC Board

Is this correct? 200 scholarships total for the first board? I didn't realize what an honor it was to be selected in the first round.

    October 15, 2012 AROTC Board

My son got offered for his first choice. We are excited but at the same time know he will be DQ'd on the physical. Now we just go through the waiver process and see what happens.

    Waivers for ACL reconstruction

By older therapy, 12 months may have been the benchmark, but today most athletes are back to 100% activity at 6 months. Physical therapy now starts within hours of surgery. Of course it all depends on the doctor one uses. We are using a doc and physical therapist who work with D1 athletes and...

    Waivers for ACL reconstruction

My son had ACL reconstruction last month. According to the DoD instruction, it is an automatic DQ if it has been less than 12 months. As the military wants athletes, I would think ACL injuries would be fairly common in high school seniors applying for academies/ROTC scholarships. Has anyone...

    October 15, 2012 AROTC Board

Any idea what the time frame is for completing the physical once you've been accepted? My son had ACL surgery and will not be released for 100% activity until April. It would be nice if we can delay the physical till then.

    AROTC injury question

Thankfully we have access to a good knee surgeon who has worked for the New England Patriots and Boston bruins, and currently is the knee specialist for the Arkansas Razorbacks, so he is well versed in sports injury and repair. Early intervention on the meniscus decreases the long term...

    AROTC injury question

My son has everything completed for the first board. Everything seemed to be going great. Last Friday night he tore his ACL and Meniscus. We meet with the surgeon on Tuesday to schedule surgery. If he is accepted, what will this mean for the physical? The army wants athletes, so I would...
