    Parents of 2017

Eagle driver Filling time with webguy. Photos, uploading to Facebook for friends and relatives and writing letters. My DS is a cobra, glad to know he is in good hands. Mom and I thought saying goodbyes at the airport would be best from crying perspective (not him so much but us). Flight out...

    Skiing

Can confirm, at least for men's gymnastics it is frowned upon since it is in season. I have heard they still get out some. To be honest, they have so many gymnastics meets in the Winter/Spring, I do not know that they have many weekends where they can ski/snow board even if they want to.

Am I taking a shot in the dark?

That looks pretty good to me Learn as much as you can about life during and life of service thereafter. I do not know if it is too late to apply for the summer program at the academy, but that is probably a good way to gain perspective. If you want it go for it, those stats look pretty good.

    Sports Recruiting

I have been going through this recently with my son. First, if you are getting recruited by D1 schools, likely you will be on track for the academies athletically (even if they are not the top tier). We have been to the academies with multiple recruitable athletes. I will say, their academics...

Legalizing recreational use of pot in CO

That is all we need, another legalized drug. How does one determine if the fault of an accident is because a person had too high of a level of THC in their blood stream? Not like there is a breathalizer for that. On the other hand, THC has a long Half life, hence it is detectable out to 3-4...

CFA scores, should I be pleased

Just kidding Lewis, runners need to be lean and mean (weight costs time). It is understandable that the other parts of the test took a toll on the mile. Best wishes on your application. I would hope that the CFA is not that big of a deal, they know you are in pretty good shape as your scores...

CFA scores, should I be pleased

I would not think it is too bad. I do wonder how the captain of a cross country team only managed a 6:08 mile. As was said, worry about what you have control over. It sounds like you have good stats overall. Best wishes/

Rigor of High School vs. class rank

I do believe there is a measure for the strength of the school. I do not know their method for calculating it but I believe there is one in addition to the standardized testing.

Loa for DS My son just received his LOA also. Senator's office also sent message that they had received it. A few steps in the right direction. Still more to do - interviews.

    Letter from academy admissions

My son is supposed to receive his LOA from USAFA next week, informed by coach that it went through the board. He will pass on other offers after receiving it (plan B's). Just hoping the LOA means it is very likely he will be able to serve at USAFA, since he will let other LOAs and Scholarships...

    Letter from academy admissions

Fritz, did your son have an LOA in hand? I do understand that there are many things that can go wrong along the way, hence the need for plan B.

    Flying fighters or other

This board is awesome, just ask and you receive the info. I will relay the information to my son. We were at USAFA last weekend. He liked it a lot. He had heard that many of the people that wound up as pilots already had their licenses going in. When he checked out the prices of the...

    telling parents

It is a very mature decision to know what you want and to take the measures to accomplish it. You are but young, I have a hard time believing that a parent would not be more than proud to join you in accomplishing your dreams. Go get it, be passionate and take the measures to accomplish your...

    Flying fighters or other

I understand it is hard to qualify to fly fighters. How does the selection process work. I have a son that is quite interested. Is it helpful to have already flown prior to entering the academy cost on the order of 10K.

Are each of the subscores equal?

Been through the academies on athletic recruiting. SAT's, GPA (weighed based on school), curriculum, ACT eliminates most. Athletes admitted have to have demonstrated their ability to balance academics and education successfully, while this is not necessarily the case for non High School...

    West Point Visit

My appologies, for the confusion, the Associate AD for Recruiting and Admissions Support. There are a few reasons we hope to conclude the search; the past few months have been a long haul with recruiting trips and we would like to put the decision behind us so that my son can get back to...
