    Cancelling MOC interview

Our DS had this very same scenario. He had a LOA and a nomination from our Congressman. He was scheduled to interview with our Senator, but declined. Before he declined however, the staffer from the Senator's office went over EVERYTHING with our DS to make sure he ACTUALLY did have a...

    Brigade Bowl

Just received a text from our MIDN that he was nominated to play in the annual Brigade Bowl, for intramural football. We could tell that he was very honored and excited, but we just don't know that much about the Brigade Bowl. Is this something that we should definitely plan to attend or...

    Late Graduation

I just noticed the the USNA has two dates reserved for late graduation. One in August & one in December. Is this to say that they do allow MIDN a little more than 4 years to earn their degree?

    Still in the game

Our DS had a completely different experience with his NROTC recruiter. The recruiter was on him night & day to get into the first round of application review. Said recruiter insisted on reviewing essay and activities involvement before DS submitted them. He made several suggestions and really...

    Herndon

Does anyone know if the Plebes will get a little liberty around the Herndon climb? Specifically the Sunday before and Monday after the climb or will we have to do all of our visiting on the Yard?

    West Point circa 1950's

Got into an interesting conversation with a Major General tonight. The topic was "Was WP harder back in the 50's or now?" I'm sure you can guess what the Major General thought. Any thoughts??

    USNA Personal Statement Draft

jbsail, These programs are designed to give prospective candidates a glimpse of what the Academy has to offer. My point was just simply to state (if applicable) that attendance to one of these programs further intrigued your interest. Obviously it isn't mandatory to attend a Summer program...

    USNA Personal Statement Draft

Did you attend NASS or STEM? If so, be sure to include that as further motivation to attend the USNA.

    Peer Rankings

What is the purpose of peer ranking each semester? How are they used?

    admissions scores

Maybe I should have elaborated a little more.............. In the past 20 years my DS's BGO has successfully guided 3 candidates to gain appointments. This year, he had 3 (which included our DS). Also, there 2 other BGOs who work this same general area. One would have actually been closer...

    admissions scores

None of our MOC choose a principle. They all submit the max number of candidates and let the USNA sort them out. I don't have specifics on how competitive our district is however 3 students out of our district are now Plebes at USNA. Coincidentally, all 3 also had the same BGO.

    Time consuming applications

Our DS thought the Permit to Report package was even more paperwork than the original application.

    admissions scores

For what it's worth, our DS received an appointment with a pair of 26's. He was not a recruited athlete, but was involved in a lot of sports & band & also had a lot of proven leadership.

    stats

600 math 570 c/r I feel that I took the sat too early (Spring of Sophomore year) and should have retaken it. Be advised that sat scores are only a small piece of the puzzle! Grades and rigor of our high school schedule are one of the first things they look at. (according to my admissions...

    OTC Meds

I've seen conflicting posts regarding OTC Meds at USNA specifically during Plebe Summer. Some say "make sure to pack your ibuprofen" others say it will be confiscated during I Day, yet others say have it sent in a care package & it won't be confiscated. Can anyone clear this up??

    Dodmerb blood pressure

I know that they draw blood on I Day, but haven't read anywhere that they check blood pressure. Yes, I agree that many if not all would have blood pressure issues during I day. Parents too!

    Weight/Height

Thanks for the input everyone. And Kinnem, yes we do a fair amout of worrying for nothing (at least we hope it is for nothing.) Just to get right down to the nuts & bolts of this issue, what does happen at USNA if a candidate shows up on I Day a little over the regs. Gets sent back home or...
