    Representative Question

I certainly can relate to your desire to serve in the USCG, but there are other options that are available to pursue a career in the Coast Guard beyond just CGA or enlisting. As Physicsguru posted above, you can receive a commission through OCS which requires a Bachelor's degree, MARGRAD which...

    Does this ruin my chances?

Having a mediocre year certainly doesn't help your chances but they aren't "ruined". You certainly still have a chance to gain admission and whether you're successful will depend on how you perform during the rest of high school. Teenagers sometimes need a bit of time to get accustomed to high...

    AIM Decision Question

I was under the impression that the apology posted here had also been e-mailed to applicants. Obviously I assumed wrong. I see now why there is also frustration from the lack of formal communication.

    AIM Decision Question

Relax. First off, there was an apology, you quoted it in your post. Second, there are other options for applicants to decide if USCGA is the right fit for them, which is the purpose of the AIM program, including but not limited to the Cadet for a Day program. USCGA is run by humans and humans...

    USCG at SMC's Please help!!!

I recommend looking at the current Officer Job Application Kit here: https://www.gocoastguard.com/sites/default/files/uploads/o-jak_26april2014_1_0.pdf Very few people apply and are selected as seen on page 72 but it appears to have a higher selection rate than other programs. I have had a...

    Cga AIM application

I don't believe USCGA publishes an exact time but when I applied I believe they came out in the afternoon around 1400-1500 EST. Yes, if you don't get in then you should still apply. You should also look into the Cadet for a Day program. Registration for that usually opens some time in August...

    Cga AIM application

You should be able to e-mail your admissions officer for your area and let them know your scores. It's been so long since I did the AIM application I forget if they require official scores but if so you can probably have them sent later just to validate your e-mail; again, your admissions...

    Prep Options

I'm not going to say which school you should or should not go to as I do not wish to add to the heated argument above. However, I do not think you should feel that you need to go to a prep school in order to be a successful re-applicant. People have gone to state universities and successfully...

    CGA Reapply

I would recommend the student to take the ROTC classes. Not only will it provide some form of military experience, but it may also provide leadership experience. Additionally, if reapplying to CGA does not work out, the student can seek a commission through DCSS which requires two years of a...

USCGA Class of 2019 statistics and waitlist?

I was in your position a few years ago and I know the disappointment felt when reading that letter. I had a similar reaction to you where I was left wondering what else I could have done. Users on here will not be able to provide the answer; the best person to tell you is your admissions officer...

Ethical Decisions-To kill or not to kill?

It would depend if criminal charges were filed and if you were convicted. Based on my limited legal background, the fact that the dog was on your property and your dog was being attacked(and had the wounds to prove it) I really doubt any judge would convict you of anything so you would've been fine.

    Wait list- new test scores

He should send them in. CGA superscores so the math score will help him out. Best of luck to your son.

Know Anyone Who's Ever Received a Waiver for a Peanut Allergy?

I have a minor peanut allergy (no medication required, just a food I avoid) and I manage to get a waiver for Army ROTC (Not USMA but same service). I can't guarantee anything but I wouldn't say it's a kiss of death. Just look out for remedials and complete them in a timely manner, all you can do.

    Alcohol on DODMERB?

I thought that when I filled that information out it said that drinking for religious reasons or when offered it by a parent such as during dinner, were excluded. Maybe they've changed it though. I would be very surprised if they made an issue of your alcohol history so you might be better...

    SA's are targeted?

Schools are actually very safe and violence has steadily been decreasing at them in the past few decades. Don't believe all the media hype.

    CGA Application Essay questions

The essays as of last year are: 1.) Explain why you are interested in attending the Coast Guard Academy and what you expect to get out of your four years as a Cadet. Articulate other goals you have established for yourself and your efforts to accomplish them. Give at least one example that...

    Class of 2022

Absolutely, I have a friend who went to a four year college and then applied to OCS and got in after graduating and working for a bit with no military experience. Don't put yourself down too much with your high school performance. If you are aiming for OCS your performance in college will...

    Class of 2022

Why wouldn't you apply?? I highly discourage you from going to a four year college and then applying to USCGA. If you really want to get an education in emergency management, do it in graduate school. If you are already in the service, you will be able to collect on the GI bill rather than...

    AIM 2014

I doubt it. When I applied for AIM a few years ago I did not submit the optional essay or any extra letters of recommendation and my name was submitted to the lottery. You aren't really competing against other applicants when applying to AIM, rather just making it clear that you are qualified...
