Hi, fellow AF parent. My son's girlfriend says be there at 9am, ceremonies (and lunch, did another commenter say?) from 10am-1pm. We are seven time zones away , so she is going for us.
God bless them all!
Hi Danika,
We are in the 18th District, and our son received a nom from then Congressman Schock and Senator Dick Durbin. I think Durbin and Kirk collaborate. Have you googled the recipients of nominations in previous years?
Our son is there at MAX 1 too, enjoying the challenge and being with like-minded young men. It has been fun to get real letters from him. His girlfriend and her mom will be at the graduation.
Pima, thanks for the reminder about mess dress.
To Zach
I am sorry Zach, we certainly know that disappointment in our fam last year. I've been checking every day to see if you got the appointment, praying for you.
I love your attitude and the mental choices it took to get there. God has excellent plans in store for you. I am proud of you...

That is really good news. I was hoping my son's experience was a fluke. It is building his character, all the waiting. He got the last piece of the uniform yesterday, so having that complete made his day.
Grateful, but it had been a challenge...
Wow, this delay would be very hard if we were still in the waiting room. Our DS was awarded one last year, and has had such a great experience with his ROTC detachment. It has been frustrating for him, though, to have gone the whole semester without his...
Chiming in: us too!
We dropped our son off at SIU last week, went to his AFROTC orientation and met his cadre, future cadets and several sets of parents.
He is in really good hands and having a blast with the cadets and his campus ministry group. His roommate is also AFROTC and a pretty good...
Cyberguard, our DS got an email asking about the presentation, but the deadline for the official deal to arrange the presentation and certificate was April 20. Shall I PM you the contact info of the officer who contacted us?
Flieger, thank you!
Good idea to save the 'bad' letters with the good.
We are grateful for you and the other moderators and posters who dispense the good news with the bad.
AirForceBrat, congrats! Way to represent Illinois!
TWEmail for our DS too :(
Sad day. We are thankful for the AFROTC scholarship and looking forward to seeing how God will use this unanticipated change of direction (DS had to reconsider schools at the last minute as #1 choice didn't admit him to the engineering school. #2 did, and offered him...
TWEmail for our DS too :(
We join the ranks of the disappointed.
BUT, grateful for an AFROTC scholarship and perhaps a reapply next year.
Skydiving kittens, my heart goes out to you especially. And to the other hopefuls for whom the wait is over. For now.

Yes, it feels late. You are doing really well if you are just NOW feeling uneasy :) For our fam, this has been a faith-walk, we have learned loads and grown in trusting Him.
One thing that helped me and the DS was lining up all the other plans in case the Academy dream was not for...
