    Best Majors at USNA

Word of advice - your service selections is based on your GPA. They do not take into account what your major is when selecting you for a warfare community. A lot of kids who aren't very intelligent pick Aero as their major and fail out into our General Engineering major. So, if you decide to...

    Academic Background System

So in terms of remaining competitive for service selection, doing well in basic classes would be preferable to doing so-so in advanced courses? No recognition in terms of class ranking is given to those who take more advanced courses (or majors)?

    Academic Background System

A lot of the academic background questionnaires are optional. Even if one could place out of a few basic classes, would it be beneficial to take the basic classes and inflate his/her GPA? When it come to service selection, does Navy take into account the level of difficulty of classes you...

From what I've gathered, a certain cynicism is part of the full Navy experience.

    No Sports or ECs

If this kid doesn't get in I think that Navy needs to change their criteria of admission. This is the kind of kid who needs to be a midshipman.

CFA Great thing about attending two seminars is you'll get to take the CFA twice! An extra opportunity to take the CFA is nothing to scoff at.

Current junior wanting to know where I stand

AP Chem When I was filling out my application I was surprised to notice there weren't any opportunities to represent AP scores. The only AP scores they ask for are AP scores from foreign language APs (i.e. Latin, Spanish, German, etc. ) I'm sure if you send in the 5 via collegeboard they'll...

    Volunteering

@Sheaisland - I've worked with the Red Cross through my school's service organization. We go around the school and get people to sign up to donate blood, organize the time slots for when they'll donate, and direct the Red Cross as to when and where to set up the donation center. Donating blood...

    Volunteering

@Sheaisland - Most all high schools will have a blood donation a couple times a year organized through the Red Cross. If you can volunteer or donate blood there that would be helpful in increasing your chances as a candidate. Did a lot of work with the Red Cross and even talked about donating...

    CVW

@navymomwannabe - I was under the impression that attending NASS did, in fact, increase your WCS. I could very easily be mistaken as I don't remember getting that information from a concrete source. However, even if attending NASS does not increase your WCS, your squad leader, a midshipman two...

Will it kill me not to have calculus?

Never took Calculus. I'm a senior right now in Honors Precalculus. Received an OOA in November. I've heard from my BGO and many others that if your level of math is lower than Calculus you'll want to overcompensate with a high Math SAT score.

    CFA Scores

Took the CFA during NASS Session 2 and ran an 8:02 mile. Maxed pushups and pullups and came close on situps. Shuttle run was average and basketball throw was 75ft. Received my Offer of Appointment on November 6 despite my lead feet. Your scores look pretty good, and I would confidently bet they...
