    Wow, AFA Losing Cadets!

Yeah... because being recruited for sports teams happens in the enlisted world, as do "thundergate events", alumni fund raising, a variety of boondoggles for clubs/teams/activities, and dozens of other traditional college-centric activities for parents and cadets. Sheesh. Really? If you...

Air National Guard Parent - Presidential

To piggyback on Mike's point... Things have certainly gotten better, and our situation was unique due to Dad's particular role. But during one period growing up as a Navy brat we moved 13 times in just over 6 years. Yes, every 6 months. Not kidding. But the point is that when people talk...

Congrats to the US Womens Soccer Team-World Champions!

They had an amazing tournament! If you want to see how a center back pairing should work (women OR men), just look at Sauerbrunn and Johnston. Wow. Taking nothing away from Hope Solo, these two were the reason she came so close to the shutout record. The goals in the final were great of...

    CBT and Keeping a Journal

We sent ours off with a small Write-in-the Rain spiral pad and Space Pen they could keep with them all the time. Notes, dates, reminders, schedules, journaling.....

    HS student discussion forum

Interesting idea, Pima. To take it a step further... If the focus on early prep (ie classes and activities from X to Y grades) was clearly stated and moderated, it could certainly be pretty valuable for folks. Just might want to make sure it doesn't go sideways into the ridiculous... I'm 13...

    Should I reapply?

AAUUPPAA, Just a note that duplicate posts are generally not encouraged here. That being said, important and appropriate question with some good answers on both threads. Hope they help and good luck!

    Is it worth reapplying?

aauuppaa, One more thought for you.... Remember that the SA's and many MOCs look quite favorably on re-applicants. It shows the kind of determination and drive that are necessary to thrive in that environment. Note: State dependent of course, but I know of at least senior MOC that...

    Parental advice needed...please!

Mom of: USMA SLE 2015 Session 1 (Respectfully declined) USAFASS 2015 Session 1 NASS 2015 Session 1 (Respectfully declined) USAFA c/0 2020 Hopeful Gballer, According to your signature it seems as if your DD has had plenty of opportunities to be exposed to SAs. Most young people don't get one...

Mom in need help supporting son's decision

To the OP, time for some "tough love"... First, kudos to you for raising a young person that has both the capability and desire to attend a SA/ROTC and serve as an officer. And further, kudos for having the courage to reach outside of your own knowledge/comfort zone to try and make peace with...

Concealed Carry on Texas College Campuses

I know it' a bit off the Concealed Carry thread topic, but something like this thought above is what I always wondered about.... Why don't the SA's and SMCs that have them, consider provisions for having students keep personal weapons locked up at the CATM range?

    Letters

Couple of tips from parents that sent both a son and daughter to BCT... Don't worry about being "boring". Basics will hang on every word and will be interested in the littlest/most mundane things from home. Trust this. Your day at work, the relatives, the appliance that broke, argument with...

    Hotel recommendations in Colorado Springs

Embassy Suites on just off Woodman is good deal. We stay there for Parents Weekends as there is more room to stretch out and we can prepare/eat a light meal in the room so cadets can be out of uniform to eat. Pretty good buffet breakfast every day and (for mom and dad) they have free well drinks...

    USAFA Cadet passes away

The quote from the father.... "She went to take care of Alex, and I'm here to take care of Peter," Jose told The Gazette. "That's something I have to take very seriously." Heartbreaking on every level. My prayers to their family; here and there.

    Addressing letters during Basic

Hmmm... We definitely had addresses pre-Iday for both of ours. I swear the cadets were notified of what their address would be via standard paperwork/packet. It was important for our family that they had mail already waiting for them at their first mail call.

    Addressing letters during Basic

+1000 for Write2Them. Amazing organization and the best cheap money you will ever spend. Just do it.... seriously. As for the occasional "special" handwritten letters designed to get your Basic extra attention... I consider it payback for all the gray hairs they've given us. :)

You Have Got To Be KIDDING ME !

In other words.... Once again shift the burden of responsibility for personal conduct (ie honor) away from the individual and onto to someone, anyone, else. "Well the only reason little Johnny cheated was because it was the same test from last year. If THEY didn't want him to cheat, THEY should...

    Nomination Question

To the OP and others, please remember that everyone is different and not everyone walks on water like Fencer's kids do (D1 athletes that take 27 credits per semester, test perfectly first time out, etc, etc). USAFA (or any SA) is filled with a variety of amazing young people with diverse...
