    Calming parents about active duty

Thank you all for your input. It's comforting to see that some of you have gone through this too. Don't think I have any illusions about what soldiers do. While I don't hope for them, I have every idea of the terrible things that could happen to me. I definitely feel like I would regret...

    Calming parents about active duty

West Point is becoming an increasingly realistic prospect for me, and my parents are becoming increasingly concerned. I'm asking this to assuage my father's fears: He is under the impression that was an officer, regardless of my branch, I'll be intentionally ordered to fight/go on patrol/etc. I...

    Congressional Nomination Interviews

Just had my Senator's interview: They asked me nothing about current events, what to do in Iraq, etc. only questions about me. First thing they said was, "what do you want to tell us about yourself?" know how to answer that! They wanted to know why I thought I would be qualified physically...

    The first "cut"

I was wondering about that- where do those nominations (like for recruited athletes) come from? Are they taken from regular applicants?

    Congressional Nomination Interviews

pyoo323: "Whatever the President orders," sure, but just keep in mind that he never ordered Abu Ghraib or any other "abuses!" I've got my Senator interview this Saturday so I'm thinking about these too!

What does this medical status mean?

I submitted my remedials a little while ago, and my status finally changed on dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil UPDATE: It changed again, I think I understand what this means. Current Medical Status: Pending Waiver Submission/Review R250.00 - Pending waiver review by USMA The dodmerb site says USMA...

    CFA

I bet it's because of all us cross country runners! If you can do 80 pushups, you've probably got a lot of muscle on you and are heavier, and so pull-ups are that much harder. I can't even do 54 push-ups but I can do a few pullups above average. It seems like pullups really depend on your weight...

    Applications!

It's about time! I've been waiting for it forever, since they told me they'd mail it August. I guess "August" meant "absolute end of August!" Anyway, thanks for the heads-up. I didn't know it was so long.

    Red/Green colorblindness

ok, I passed it! I haven't sent in anything to DoDMERB yet, but do you think this means I won't need a waiver for my color deficiency?

    West Point Summer Leaders Seminar

I think in no way was it as tough as R-Day! It was basically just to give us a taste. They didn't sugarcoat things, but they didn't go out of their way to upset us. One cadet did yell at some girl until she cried, but I tihnk that was an isolated incedent.

    Israel and the Middle East...

You're right about the media... take a look at this! http://www.aish.com/movies/PhotoFraud.asp Shocking to my naive eyes (if it's true)

    Gitmo Tribunals?

I'm not suggesting that we'll win over the people who already hate us. But what about in a place like Iraq where unemployed young men can decide to join the Iraqi army or the insurgency? That's why I'm so big on the military's image.

    West Point Summer Leaders Seminar

To apply- go to usma.edu and I believe there is a "summer" button somewhere. You fill out the same form that starts your West Point file- Personal info and your sports, extracurriculars, and PSAT score. Apparently the PSAT score is a very important factor. You also rank how much you want each...

    Gitmo Tribunals?

They don't deserve it, that's for sure. But I think it's important that our military doesn't sink to the terrorists' moral standards. The United States needs to be identifiable as the good guy. If the military must have its Gitmos, it needs to do a better job of keeping them a secret.

    Israel and the Middle East...

Sure, but what if that involves killing 50 innocent people? Hezbollah really has the upper hand here... every time the Israelis blast civilians it unites the Lebonese against them and makes Hezbollah ever more popular. It seems to me that war with Hezbollah will become war with Lebanon. Not...

    West Point Summer Leaders Seminar

It was my first experience with anything military but I liked it a lot and made USMA a sure thing for me. I got a good idea of what the cadets and faculty were like. Definitely didn't expect a dance on the first night, but that was fun. Getting to talk to soldiers and firing a howitzer were...

    Red/Green colorblindness

Wow! I had no idea, you're a great help. Fortunately I haven't sent the form in yet. I'll ask the optometrist to call up DoDMERB so he can find out how to give me the right test. Is there an easy way to get the another copy of the eye exam form? I don't want it to look like I tried to change my...

    Red/Green colorblindness

I am applying to USMA, and my eye exam showed I am very red/green colorblind (no suprise). DoDMERB sent me "Obtain a REPEAT vivid Red/Green color vision examination". My mom called up DoDMERB to see if I was disqualified but they said I scored 3/14, which was acceptable, but they still wanted a...
