    LDAC

Wow, thanks, clarksonarmy. That's very interesting. I didn't realize the cadre or cadet were consulted. I pictured it as a random assignment and the cadet got what he got, like it or not. It's a relief to know conflicts and preferences are considered. (Likewise for strengths and...

    LDAC

How is LDAC scheduled? I understand that the program is 4 or 5 weeks long. So, is it held twice each summer? Or are they able to squeeze in 3 sessions? When do the sessions begin? Is there a set schedule like the third Monday of May, 4th Monday of June, etc? Thanks.

Yikes! need to understand AROTC quickly... NROTC might not be best

There's no need to re-hash what the others have said about deployment, so let me comment on what I know about the path to FBI. My son has wanted to be an FBI agent since forever. Before his senior year of HS he was selected for...

Any one having sucess with PMS Lobbying Admission

Expensive private schools might like ROTC students, too. If the Army is paying full sticker price for a cadet's tuition, it allows the college to shift financial aid (small though it may be) to other students.

Any one having sucess with PMS Lobbying Admission

It was our experience that the Recruiting Operations Officer (ROO) was more accessible than the PMS. Son kept her informed of his milestones in the app process and notified her when his SAT score rose 160 pts. We think that was the tipping point. Once his SAT was above the college's midpoint...

NROTC graduates to commission into the IRR

I'm not sure I understand. Does this mean that newly commissioned graduates of NROTC will have the benefits, but not the paycheck, of active duty ensigns for 5 - 12 months?

Stocking Stuffers for the AROTC Cadet

On another thread I read this As a mom, I had an A-ha! Stocking stuffers. What else could my son use? And, if you have time, please educate me on the purpose of the items. For example, I have no idea why a cadet would want black duct tape, but I'll get some. And, what are ranger...

How Many AROTC Applicants Received Contact Initiated by a PMS

Son was awarded the scholarship to 5 out of his top 6 schools. He made first contact to his #1 school (Wake Forest), so we'll never know if anyone would have contacted him. Of the remainder, the 2 smallest schools (Gettysburg & Dickinson) share a battalion and the Gettysburg affiliate...

so, the AROTC board meets today!!!

agp, I think the tuition payment situation varies by school. For my son, his school knew of his scholarship in May (I think) because he had passed DoDMERB at that point. Because they knew so early, his first bill showed a credit equal to what they anticipated receiving from the Army...

    Harbinger of fewer scholarships?

Good article. I just wish somebody would report how many total applications Cadet Command received last year. We know how many scholarships they gave out (2500). We know there was a 15% increase over prior year. We know there are 16,000 total cadets. But we still don't know how many...

school of intent: two schools for the same battalion?

My son did. He put Dickinson and Gettysburg on his list; they're in the same battalion. Both were approved in his final list of 5.

Army ROTC October board date changed?????

I know the Army is a 365/24/7 operation, but I'd be really surprised if it started a "paperwork" process affecting hundreds of civilians on a Federal holiday. (today, Columbus Day)

no way to update SAT and such once a candidate is boarded????

My son's first SAT (1190) was good enough for the Army, but low for his first-choice college. When he got his second score (1340) we submitted it to the college and the Army. In a subsequent phone call with the ROO at his first choice school, she didn't seem too optimistic about Son's...

ROTC cadet community: a good foundation for social life and support?

My son is a freshman (MSI) in AROTC. He seems to be bonding 2/3 with his dormmates and 1/3 with ROTC. However, like goaliegirl, he had FTX this past weekend. So maybe he has made some new friends in the battalion. In rotc he has participated in some optional activities (color guard and a...

    Travel Reimbursement for AROTC

When we read Son's AROTC contract back in June (before he got to college) we interpreted the travel allowance as a one-time thing that most cadets use for airfare to LDAC.
