My DS said, “Contrails. Definitely Contrails.” 🙃

Curious about how fighter pilots are assigned to jobs/locations

It’s not his first assignment. He graduated UPT, then graduated from B course back in early 2020.

Curious about how fighter pilots are assigned to jobs/locations

Thank you, Stealth. He graduated B course back in early 2020 and is close to completing 3 years at his first assignment. He is a lead - whatever that entails. He was hoping to get Kunsan done before coming back. I think he was hoping to stay in the F16 a bit longer….

Curious about how fighter pilots are assigned to jobs/locations

Thank you for your insight. You have it right. Sounds like you have been in his shoes. Any insight into what happens after 3 years as UPT Instructor?

Curious about how fighter pilots are assigned to jobs/locations

Thanks for the reply. DS asked for the Kunsan slot but was given IP slot. I just curious how fighter pilots are chosen for IP slots or if the majority all do an instructor role at some point.

🤦‍♀️ EIC? Really? You’re a CPA and are going to use a cadet for a parent to receive an EIC? And you’re going to determine dependency exemption depending on the stimulus bonus checks? I’m stunned by some of your comments. Truly stunned.

Service Academies are vastly different than standard colleges. SAs do not qualify for any education credits.

Exactly. If parents claim their cadet they receive a $500 non refundable credit on their tax return. Thats it. $500. Cadets should file their own taxes and possibly receive a refund depending on their withholding.

In my humble opinion, it would be pretty hard to say you provided over 50% of his/her support after the first year at an academy. They are employed. They have a W2 with wages and health insurance provided by their employer, aka Uncle Sam. Parents don‘t provide room and board or meals. The...

Curious about how fighter pilots are assigned to jobs/locations

Any insight on how fighter pilots are assigned? For instance, Pilot A fills out the (wish) list with S. Korea as #1. Pilot B has zero interest in S. Korea and puts IP/UPT as #1. Pilot A is assigned to IP slot and Pilot B to S. Korea. I’m just curious how it all works…do all fighters eventually...

Son visiting in March to see cadet friend, are there shuttles from airport to hotels and USAFA?

It’s been awhile since our 2017er graduated, but there was a shuttle service from the airport to The Academy Hotel.

    Before Junior Year

Things must have changed. My 2017 grad had a pretty impressive resume, including volunteer work. He was an equestrian and volunteered every Friday at a horse camp for special needs children helping them ride. His ALO really enjoyed talking with him about that.

UPT & Pilots From Other Countries

Thank you, Pima. So if there are two foreign pilots in UPT, who are automatically tracking 38s, then that’s two slots the 2LTs don’t get. Is that correct. What if a foreign pilot doesn’t do well? I’m under the impression that they still track 38s regardless? I’m just trying to understand the system.

UPT & Pilots From Other Countries

Thank you, Wishful. I’m talking about the foreign pilots currently in UPT. I realize that ENJJPT is a different scenario.

UPT & Pilots From Other Countries

Just curious, and not meant to stir the pot, but is the AF paid to train the pilots from other countries, and do they take fighter slots away from USAF pilots in training?
