Advice about ROTC Scholarships and Appointment

If he gets injured at West Point he won't be able to fall back on ROTC anyway. He'll still have to pass the PT test to contract with ROTC. In my opinion, I would hold onto the ROTC scholarship until he leaves for the Academy.

The team sport thing would make perfect sense. Thanks for the information.

Is one sport better than another?

The last thing I want to do is start a debate about whether tennis is better than swimming or whatever. I am curious though if one sport carries more weight on an application than another. For example, would a football team captain add more weight to an application over a cross country team...

    Coast Guard Special Operations

Almost always, without exception, Academy grads go to a ship their first tour. I knew quite a few JOs I served with afloat that went to flight school after their first tour afloat. Best case scenario, count on at least one tour afloat.

    Coast Guard Special Operations

    Questionable actions.

I hate to be a downer, but, with the current state of the economy and the steep increase in applications, there's going to be more than enough highly qualifed applicants who have not used drugs. I know for the Coast Guard, if you admit to using illegal drugs, you can forget about the academy or...

    Questionable actions.

I served 20 years in the military so take this for whatever it's worth. I've probably had this discussion about a million times with fellow serviceman and none of them, even if they did, admitted to using drugs. If you don't have a drug problem and you've only experimented with it then why put...
