Current Cadet - Private Medical Care - Prescription

As a cadet or commissioned officer, you fall under the military medical system. It affects what jobs you hold and access to certain things. It affects if you can fly or deploy...it is the only medical system that applies to your cadet. If you received treatment outside the military system...

Can having a PPL help you get an appointment?

I think having a PPL would more likely help you get a nomination. Also remember that sending folks to UPT (flight school) is no longer important to USAFA.

What to do... any advice..words of wisdom?

We know through decades of observation that people who are involved with competitive sports have characteristics desired by the military. Discipline, teamwork, drive, focus etc. That is why athletics look good on the application. Physical fitness is very important but does not necessarily...

    Air Force Academy help?

I had a bad freshman year in HS... Courseload, SAT/ACT have a large impact.

    Slightly above-average student: chances?

The Academy wants to know about activities to get an idea about motivation , the ability to handle workload, and leadership opportunities. If you play soccer then list it as playing soccer. If you have a job, and that job is to ref soccer, then list it as your job. If sometimes you ref for...

Leaving USAFA, Starting Over, and Being Okay

Life at the Zoo sucks. Probably a bit more kindler and gentler than when I went through, but bad enough. There is constant pressure, academic, athletic, military...you are constantly juggling them. Mostly you spend your time treading water, just barely. Nobody breezed through USAFA...

    Being the best in UPT?

Flieger83 summed it up nicely. I will give my perspective. I spent 14 of my 24 years 'training fighter pilots' at ENJJPT. I used the single quotes because not everyone got fighters...some years only a few per class (needs of the AF). You need to study/chairfly as much as possible...if...

Concerns Regarding New USAFA SAMI/AMI standards - Parent's reactions

Do the parents get briefed on what kind of academic facility their adult children will be attending during improcessing, or perhaps during the application process? It is not a college, it is a military academy on a military base...run by the military. They are not college dorm rooms, they...

    Joining the Academy

I was an ALO for a number of years...gave it up due to schedule conflicts. I rarely got the opportunity to talk to a youngster, see where they wanted to go, and point them in the right direction. 99% of the time the first time I heard about a student was when I had to interview them...and...

    Weight limit for T38??

Nude body weight is the number you want. The T-6 number looks about right, but the 38 number looks low...however it might have changed with the brand new seat. Also the charts show a safe weight, and a max weight...at the max weight you may be severely injured during the ejection/parachute...

What looks better, golf or cross country?

Lettering in a sport, being team captain, both look good on your resume. Just playing a sport shows you have time management skills, but so does working at a grocery every afternoon.

Prior Enlistees ? Prep school hopes..

There is nothing stopping you from taking some college math and English courses right now...as well as SATs and ACTs. Find out who your ALOs are in the area and get some one on one mentoring...

Do I have a chance at USAFA?

If you know a number is low, then work to improve it. USAFA is looking for well rounded folks that can handle the academic pressures as well as the other pressures. Having a full challenging schedule prepares you well. If you could have done more, the question will be what stopped...

    Prep School

Some of my best long-time friends went to USAFAPS. I had the local AFROTC Det Comm tell me that going to the Prep School was a bad idea, and I would be better off joining ROTC there...he also said being a pilot was overrated...

    Still Deciding

My HS English teacher made us memorize this quote...pretty much sums up my life. Brutus: There is a tide in the affairs of men. Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; Omitted, all the voyage of their life Is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now...

    Flying?

I was a UPT instructor at Sheppard for about 13 years. I flew with hundreds of students from all over NATO, a large group of them were USAFA grads, most grads went on to fly fighters. (for the most part, you get a fighter or bomber out of Sheppard ) People get assignments that match their...

    Flying?

I am curious about this also. The purpose of UPT is to train the future pilot leaders of the AF. If someone is unfit to fill that role then they should be removed from training. ...and guess what, if you go through a pilot training program for a company...they will fire those who don't...

    A few questions on UPT

You know there are folks that go through (a version of) TPS that are not pilots. I don't personally know anyone who went through TPS.
