A while ago in this thread I touched upon the pressure at USNA to recruit top-tier athletes in order to remain competitive as a very, very small NCAA Division One school. A number of people missed the point I was trying to make which was that USNA is a school with a great number of applicants...

A while ago in a different thread I touched upon the pressure at USNA to recruit top-tier athletes in order to remain competitive as a very, very small NCAA Division One school. A number of people missed the point I was trying to make which was that USNA is a school with a great number of...

    TWE

I obviously have struck a nerve with you. The point I've been addressing is that the Academy stresses high ACT/SAT scores along with superior academic performance, leadership and participation in athletics as significant areas that candidates should shrive to excel in. In fact, academics and...

Exactly what BROAD generalization did I make? I think I stated very clearly that most recruited athletes are well qualified but that Admissions is not hesitant to bend the qualification guidelines in order to appoint a recruited athlete that a Navy coaching staff really wants. I don't think...

Joedoe: As I stated in my original post, there are many exceptional, all-around qualified recruited athletes at Navy and I'm very proud that our two Mids are part of that group. You are on the Yard just as our two Mids are; you know how things really are and you know what I originally posted...

I've been really hesitant to weigh in on this as we've already been through the whole nomination/appointment process with two mids and really don't have skin in the game anymore. However, that said - I think it important to clearly restate that USNA is no different than any other NCAA Division...

How much does community college hurt your chances?

I personally know a Navy Rear Admiral - Upper Grade who received an appointment to the Academy after he had finished two years at community college. He didn't even apply until early in his second year at community college. It's all in the curriculum and in the grades.

    USNA waiting for yield results

The MOC's office is correct that there are very few appointment slots to be filled from original individual Congressional nomination slates (one to occasionally two slots assigned to each Congressman/woman and in most cases filled from the nomination list that was turned in); but based on prior...

Is it a bad idea to email my RD?

Sorry about that - I was thinking AC and typing RD.

Is it a bad idea to email my RD?

RD's and Admissions Counselors are two entirely separate positions. I have an older list of RD's but can't find it at the moment. Easiest way to find out who your RD is would be to call Admissions, tell them where you are from and ask them for the contact information on the RD serving your...

    C/O 2019 Mailbox Stalkers

1132 is the actual targeted incoming, reporting class size for this year as opposed to 1191 actually reporting last July (wait list has nothing to do with it). The draw-down at all the service academies continues and actual class sizes will continue to shrink at least though the next couple of...

    Admissions Counselor Out of Office?

    When did briefer assignments change?

    Admissions Counselor Out of Office?

Maybe - In most cases he/she is the individual briefing the Admissions Board on your file although the Admissions Board has either concluded its meetings for this year or will do so shortly.

    VP nominations for 2019

No problem. V.P. category doesn't even come to the table for discussion until almost all (99%) appointments have been made - both from the initial go-through and from the National Pool. Literally one of the last appointments assigned and made.

    VP nominations for 2019

A clarification: In theory, the Vice President has the same rights of nomination as any Congressman. The reality: The Office of Admissions chooses who those nominees are - not the Vice President's office. Even though the Vice President is in theory allowed 10 nominations per slot available in...

    Evaluated but no decision

I've seen it. It shows the status of each nominee with some restrictions and a caveat that the information is not necessarily official. Representative's and Senator's Academy Coordinators also get an e-mail notification - typically within two-three days - once an Appointment is officially...

    Evaluated but no decision

Just to clarify on a couple of points: No one outside of Admissions and the Admissions Board has access to how qualified a candidate is - including a candidate's WCS score. Outside dashboards only show whether a candidate was deemed qualified by the Admissions Board. Remember there is a...

    College Reapplicant

Yes, you will - Just the same as all the graduating high school senior appointees. Pretty much a formality; BUT I have seen a very few appointees bounced in the past when their grades slipped too much.

    If not slected from slate

Parent: Sorry you got miffed the other day and said you were done with the Forum. Glad you are back. The information you posted is incorrect - particularly in regard to the number of appointments charged to Congress (it is more than 535 in a typical year) and in other substantial areas as...
