Hello worried and excited parents!
I am remembering our world one year ago when we were preparing to take our son to the USCGA...
The great unknowns, the excitement, the questions...
It is a ride ladies and gentlemen... buckle up...
Well, it was quite a year for us, from the very first morning...
Is the fit testing once you are in the USCGA the same as the applicant fit test?
ie: 2 minute cadence pushup, 2 min max situp and 1.5mile run.
My son is continuing to improve his fitness and wants to know what to expect.
OK, I give up on trying to be the worlds greatest dad.
My DS has achieved a great pinnacle in being offered an appointment to the USCGA.
He is very proud of that offer, we are very proud of what he has accomplished to be given that offer.
But now he is wavering on the doorstep of that huge...
So, I have seen on the other forums for USNA/USAFA that RDay/IDay is really not worth parents attending as there is limited time and not much parent focus (obvious).
However, on the USCGA2020 Parents Facebook page there is a thread about RDay plans for parents preparing to make sure they have...
Proud parents, our DS received his appointment!!
However, he didn't get a call or an email, the decision was in the USCGA portal, so login and check!!!
Just thinking ahead of the curve, my DS was reboarded for AFROTC and denied 4 year NROTC.
Assuming that he gets denied AFROTC as well, he will likely reapply before his sophomore year.
He is going into Electrical Engineering which is a desired degree, and I am fairly confident he will do well...
End of the line for my DS, he received his denial letter from USNA this morning.
He is quite disappointed as he really liked our trip to Annapolis.
Thanks for all the help and guidance on the forums, will let you know if he gets an offer to USCGA which he is still waiting to hear from.
He...
My DS met the AFROTC Board on March 7 and this morning received the following email:
We appreciated the opportunity to consider your application for an Air Force ROTC scholarship. Although your application was competitive, you were not selected for a scholarship at this time. We will continue...
In other words, does the USNA admissions keep a record of all those that are accepted by high school? Do they look at success percentages for those that graduate or leave the academy from each high school? Seems like that might be somewhat of a helpful metric in the decision process, just...
So now that the waiting game is on, time for a diversion.
Huge assumption and hope that my DS gets an appointment, but if he does can someone give some insight into the sports as USCGA.
I understand they are Division III (USCGA is smaller than his High School!).
So I am pretty sure he is going...
Well, sad to say but not unexpected, my DS was DQ from USAFA due to his fitness.
I figured that would be the case, he just couldn't get into run fitness in time after football season. As a big slow lineman he just didn't get fit in time. Guess it is the USAFA loss. Their deadlines were so much...
My son's USAFA application is complete, thank god for that.
He is academically qualified (solely based upon his slightly above avg ACT and avg GPA/rank), he is medically qualified and has a nomination from his congressman.
As many of you know we have had several discussion threads about his...
I checked my son's USAFA application page today and noted under the NOMINATION STATUS is listed: RECEIVED and his congressman's name. He interviewed this past weekend.
I don't recall seeing that status previously, does RECEIVED mean that they have the congressmans name or that no kidding he...
He is finally done!!
My son took the ACT 3 times and was able to bump at least one of each section with each test.
His final superscores aren't too bad, now we will see what the academy thinks of his academics"
English 32
Math 30
Reading 32
Science 31
His GPA is 3.61 in top 25th percentile in...
We had a fantastic day at the Academy today. So much, that my son may have moved up his preferences and put USCGA first. We met the Asst Superintendent and we met with the head of the Electrical Engineering Department. What an amazing place. We were able to get our tour completed before the wind...
Beautiful morning in New London CT.
The Holiday Inn is a decent hotel with nice rooms and great staff, very happy staying here.
Look out, planning torrential rains starting later today.
The long drive from hell though, for various reasons we are flying in and out of Baltimore. OMG the roads and...
Would love to hear any suggestions about our upcoming visit to the naval academy.
We will be there on Thursday all day and available Friday morning, our flight leaves out of Baltimore in the afternoon so he can't attend the all day program the academy offers on Fridays.
Any suggestions that will...
After searching and reading numerous posts on the forums I have more questions than when I started!
I have read posts that say the USAFA does superscore and others that they don't superscore.
Perhaps the definition of supercore is the confusion.
So here is my question, please only chime in if...
