    Summer Programs

I'm a college freshman, but I just took a look at that site. That looks cool. Hands-on skills are so important to learn. I learned oxyacetylene, TIG, MIG, stick and aluminum welding in HS. Really good to know. @blueplate99, even if you aren't applying to a SA, this still looks fun.

Second Time on the Roller Coaster

It depends. If you used your junior year math & English teacher, you can use your senior ones as a college freshman. If you used your senior ones in high school, you need to use your college teachers. I'm a college freshman and my BGO has told me at his BGO meetings that the Dean of USNA (Dean...

    Math requirements for USNA

There's like 1 or 2 things to remember from Trig, like the trig functions, inverse trig function, hyperbolic trig function, and that's it. I had Trig for a full semester in HS and I remember hardly anything from it because I barely used it in the year of PreCalc that followed. PreCalc is like...

    2nd semester senior grades

EDIT: I had another class 2nd Sem called Intro to Engineering. We cover(ed) stuff like ASME ethics, sig figs, Excel skills, various design challenges, how NOT to give a bad presentation and my favorite, building Lego robots to go pick up soda cans. @NavyHoops: Interesting to know. Next year...

    2nd semester senior grades

I reapplied (didn't get in - due to low GPA) but I took these classes this year: 1st Sem: Chem w/ lab for engineers Physics 1 w/ lab Calc 1 Fitness & Wellness (gym class, yuck) Civilization (history, mandatory) 16 credits 2nd Sem: Computer programming Physics 2 w/ lab Calc 2 Fitness & Wellness...

    USNA Negative Stigma

Hmm. This post is coming at a good time for me, because I've been doing a lot of serious thinking recently about whether to apply for a 3rd time. I still think I'm a little annoyed/perplexed why I wasn't admitted, given my experience compared to a HS student. If I reapplied a 3rd time, I'd be 21...

    Best Majors at USNA

OK. Yes, MechE major is more time-intensive than an Econ or Entrepreneur major, but I guess every major has its challenges. I've compared the MechE major requirements at my school and at USNA and it's pretty much the same. I could never be a Chem or BioChem major because I just hate Chem...

    USNA Negative Stigma

I don't want to steer the conversation towards Fleming, but does he have any good points (that are factual)? No military experience here, just military family to go off of when reading his articles.

    USNA Negative Stigma

My brother-in-law was a grunt for 5 years and he says he's had both good and bad from every source. I think for the most part he sees SA grads as somewhat arrogant (and I might agree a bit based on some of the cadets/mids that I've met). BTW he did get his degree before enlisting - not sure why...

    Best Majors at USNA

I'm not a MID but I think as a college student like anyone else it's easy to see which majors are harder than others. I have a lot more work with my MechE major than my Econ friends.

Which is pretty much everything there.

How to access portal for Class of 2019 now that 2020 application is up?

Hm. I tried it at different times and sometimes I got the white box first, other times no. Worked both ways regardless. But I wasn't accepted so the portal really has no more value to me.

    TWE

You know, if you graduate from USMMA, you have the option of commissioning in the Navy (and other branches depending on the # of slots). USMMA is sort of hidden gem that not many people know about. You can cross-commission into (mostly) any branch from there. I would encourage your son to read...

    Teacher recommendation

kl3661, I was sort of in your shoes this year. I'm a college freshman MechE major and I didn't take a English class this year. Actually never with my major. However, at my school we have to take 18 credits of mandatory humanities over the 4 years, and some of them are sort of similar to an...

Need some advice for Back-up school

$400 for "orientation fees" ??? That is ridiculous, I mean, what even is an orientation fee? I've spent less on that for books between my first 2 semesters at my school. These cash-strapped state schools still surprise me with the things they try to charge for. I guess that's college but wow...

    College Reapplicants

No, a college (re)applicant can receive a LOA. It happened to my friend. He is now appointed.

    Re-applicant Recommendations

Your grades are the most important thing. What is your major? The SA's figure if you can't get good grades at some state school, then how would you manage all the other obligations piled on you when you get to USxA. Doing a sport is fine. I did varsity swimming this year at my D3 school, also...

    C/O 2019 Mailbox Stalkers

Gee. Thanks guys. Even though I don't know any of you, it is encouraging to "be" with other people that have gone through the same process.

    C/O 2019 Mailbox Stalkers

PA-16 here. Just had my nomination ceremony today which was sort of bittersweet, because I knew beforehand that I was declined by both USNA and USMMA. Still on the fence about reapplying a 3rd time. Anyways, hope the rest of you all hear some good news soon!!!
