    Study Abroad Army ROTC cadet

I studied abroad while on AFROTC scholarship. Like @MohawkArmyROTC stated, my scholarship covered tuition while I paid the study abroad fees. I had to double up on ROTC classes to make up for the time I was gone, but it was a great experience and I’m VERY happy I did it!

    ROTC Non-Selects Hub

The cool thing about ROTC is that you don’t need a scholarship to complete the program and there are good odds of getting a scholarship in college. And stats for scholarship recipients are all over the place so I wouldn’t stress too much over them. Don’t let not getting a scholarship deter you...

Space Force ROTC-- New ROTC Program This Year--Need Insight!

It’s funny how many people still think it’s a joke. Now that I have a CAC that says Space Force more people will believe it’s real, but it’s quite entertaining 😂

Space Force ROTC-- New ROTC Program This Year--Need Insight!

I commissioned via AFROTC as a 13S Space Operations Officer in 2016.

Space Force ROTC-- New ROTC Program This Year--Need Insight!

I’m AD Space Force. I was part of the first group to transfer from Air Force in 2020. There has been lots of change and much more expected as the new service continues to figure out how it is going to do things. The big thing about folks commissioning in to Space Force is that career fields for...

    time between commisoning and ead.

I was AFROTC, commissioned in May and went on AD in June. It all depends on your career field and training pipeline. It can vary widely so there’s really no way to determine when you’ll go AD until you get orders. It’ll be within a year though.

Is Dodmerb good for ROTC and USNA

Then he should be good to go. Check the DoDMERB (not DoDMETS) portal, it should show qualified for AROTC.

Is Dodmerb good for ROTC and USNA

If he didn't have any waivers, then yes, he is also qualified for NROTC. However, the different academies/ROTC branches do different reviews for waivers, so a waiver for USNA may not be granted for ROTC.

    Kerataconus Contracted Cadet

Since you're not on AD, your medical care is not covered by the Army and you will likely be disqualified if your condition does not meet medical standards (and won't by commissioning). Once you inform your cadre, they will put you on "Medical Recheck Status" while DoDMERB re-investigates your...

    ROTC and Co-Op opportunities

You'd have to make up the ROTC classes during another term but it's definitely doable. I did a summer internship between my junior and senior years that turned into an off-campus project (similar to a co-op) for most of the following semester. I ended up commuting to campus two days a week at...

AFROTC Scholarship and Service Academy Reapplication

Yup. Be upfront with you cadre about your intention to reapply. Mine were very supportive. If you receive an appointment, your AFROTC contract is voided by showing up at USAFA on I-day. Have fun in AFROTC until then, and be sure to go in wholeheartedly.

Capital Gains is a thing right? Oh and Credit too.

I was able to get a USAA credit card in my name once I turned 18 as a cadet in AFROTC. I think was a $750 credit limit or something like that. I believe it was called the USAA card for Pre-commissioned officers (i.e cadets in commissioning programs). Then once I got on AD, I got the AMEX...

Getting Ahead on Letters of Recommendation

I definitely didn’t think it strange when applying, but now, being on AD, LOR means something completely different ;) LOR=Letter of Reprimand (not good)

    What are the recommended...

It’s funny how a lot of people here think you need to get an ROTC scholarship to do ROTC. All you need to do is be accepted to a school with ROTC. In fact, the majority of freshmen are NOT on scholarship in the beginning of ROTC, however many do acquire scholarships before they graduate...

    How do people afford self-prep?

Like @AROTC-dad ’s DS, I went straight to college after not being accepted to USAFA. Although I had heard of the prep schools, I never considered them because I’d received an AFROTC scholarship and meant to commission by whatever means available (USAFA was not the be all and end all). If I’d...

AFROTC Scholarship- waiver denied, next steps?

You’re very welcome! Let me know if you have any more questions about AFROTC. I commissioned in 2016 and neither of the waivers ever came back to bite me :). Best of luck to you! Unfortunately I also know too many people whose waivers were denied while in AFROTC (1-2 years into the program) and...

AFROTC Scholarship- waiver denied, next steps?

You can accept the scholarship without being medically qualified. I would go ahead and accept it. Then contact the detachment at the school your DS wishes to enroll in and let them know of the situation. The DoDMERB just needs to be clear prior to him contracting when he arrives in the fall...

Gap between commissioning and reporting for duty (AFROTC)

If I hadn’t gone on AD so quickly after commissioning, I would likely have called up the place I’d interned the previous summer and asked them if they had another intern position I could slip in to for the time I was there. Since they knew I was in AFROTC and were generally familiar with the...
