    Disputing Medical Waiver

When that happened to my son in 2014, I was told that the school needed to ask for a waiver and that was the only way. I was told that it depended on how much they wanted him, i.e., if that was the only thing pending for him to get an appointment. KP did request a waiver, my son went back to...

    MMI Prep

My son was a sponsored prep at NMMI and it has helped him immensely at KP in his first year. Being a sponsored prep, as Mman5247 said, is a golden ticket. If you do well in classes and maintain your GPA, you are pretty much in for an appointment the following year. My son din't like the setback...

    Name of USMMA Prep School?

I can totally relate to you. That was very hard on me too. Good luck to your son. One great thing about prep schools - they make great friends and start USMMA already with great friends, which is a big plus when they go through indoc and throughout their time there. They learn to count on each...

    Name of USMMA Prep School?

No problem! He ended up going to NMMI because he needed a waiver for his medical, which came in a little late in the game for an appointment. So USMMA sponsored him at NMMI. Even if your son is not a sponsored cadet at NMMI, he can still go to the Institute as self-referred. Sponsored cadets...

    Name of USMMA Prep School?

New Mexico Military Intitute. My son went there for a year before USMMA, let me know if you have any questions.

Medical Denial - Chance of Rebuttal?

Who initially requested the medical waiver that was denied? When my son was initially disqualified due to an arthroscopic knee surgery years before, the Academy request a waiver on his behalf, and we were contacted to provide additional information. We then provided new x-rays and a doctor's...

    Plebe Care Package

It's amazing how sometimes what looks like a simple question can become so controversial. And even more amazing how some people want to discredit other people's comments based on their own experience without considering others may have had a different one. The truth is that, even if there isn't...

    Plebe Care Package

MMA19kid, you are not correct in your statement above. It may be "ridiculous" but plebes have had to "pay" for that exact reason - I personally know 2 that had to write hundreds of times "I am a plebe" or something similar because of the way correspondence was addressed to them. And one had to...

    Plebe Care Package

That's a great idea, and I'm sure he will appreciate it. YES, definitely specify "plebe" on the address or he may have "to pay" for it. As for contents, I tried sending cookies to my son once and he told me not to. I sent a little package and he immediately shoved them all in his mouth so no one...

    Dormitories and living conditions

My son is in 4thCo and I have visited his quarters. Room is comfortable but very basic, as expected. Size is good and much larger than his room at NMMI, where he prep'd for one year. Bathrooms are ok and DS says that they (cadets) keep it very clean. I guess it depends on who you have on your...

    NMMI Parents 2014 - 2015

Momma120, my DS is also leaving tomorrow morning. I believe they are in the same flight from Dallas. Let's stay in touch!

    NMMI Parents 2014 - 2015

Kathy (momma120), my son is also arriving there around 4:50pm on the 29th. Maybe they are in the same flight. My husband was sad that he is not going to go with him... but there is really no point, since once they get there they will be picked up by someone from the Institute and be "theirs". I...

    NMMI 2015

CaKPdad, thanks for the clarification. I was so naively happy thinking that he wouldn't have to go through the nomination process again... But it is good that NMMI provides all the help he needs with that.

    NMMI 2015

confused Now I am confused... reapply for nomination? I thought they didn't need to reapply for a nomination if they were sponsored cadets.

    NMMI 2015

Thanks, and it makes total sense (I work for the government too). I am really glad that USMMA still sponsors their flight to get there. We are trying to plan ahead for the expenses, since we have the big one before matriculation and it will be an expensive trip. Thanks again for the info!

    NMMI 2015

Thanks for your response. We are trying to plan ahead for when he has to matriculate and it is good to know that will be one less expense. Does USMMA make the flight arrangements or is it a reimbursement type of deal?

    NMMI 2015

DS also going My son just got his letter this week too, we are super excited. We are from CA. I read in another (older) post that USMMA sponsored students don't need to worry about airfare because the Academy pays for it. Does anyone know if that is still the case?

    Medical waivers

Got into NMMI Thanks! But just as I clicked "send" on my previous post, we got an email from the swim coach at USMMA notifying my son that he got a spot at NMMI. We are very relieved and my son is very excited. I didn't realize that NMMI only received 50 to 60 sponsored kids every year from all...
