    2nd Thoughts

From the very bottom of my heart, please do not come. While love of country wasn't the sole reason I decided to attend USMA, it was most definitely a factor. I really don't want to have a battle buddy that's there for the wrong reasons. You seem like a driven guy that will be successful in a...

Chances of getting into West Point

This may sound really bad, but many areas with a lot of money, really good schools, or lots of ex-government/military types tend to be competitive. Socal, Chicago's North Shore, parts of New England, parts of VA near DC, etc... tend to be super competitive.

    Give one piece of advice

Don't take this advice... Obviously admission may be skewed, but there's no reason not to dream about the academies---something has to motivate you to struggle through endless hours of ACT prep and the tedious application process. If you're not setting tough goals, you're doing something wrong...

    Hello from an excited Mom

Boys State is a REALLY good idea Honestly, I would do anything in your power to get Boys State on your resume... Boys State factors into the 30% "leadership" category, and from what I have heard (a very good source, although not confirmed), Boys State adds ~200/800 points in that category, with...

    USMA v. USNA Forbes Ranking

Does anyone on these forums have any insight into the fairly large disparity in rankings between these two schools (Forbes rankings)? West Point is ranked 7th, among the likes of Harvard, Columbia, Williams, and MIT, whereas Navy is ranked 28th---much closer to U of M and UVA. All of the schools...

Multiple Offers? What are your thoughts?

Glad to hear that by thoroughly examining my choices I'm setting myself up to be an indecisive officer!:thumb:

    AP classes

I'm pretty sure the sheer amount of apush reading was what got me a 36 on the reading portion of the ACT... Get prepared for some long nights!

    Decision Time: USMA or USNA

Interesting Perspective As I'm in the same place as you, I've really been struggling to make the decision as well. I reached out to my Boys State counselor, who was a West Point grad in the early/mid 2000's and a ranger in the 75th, with some insight into this. His mindset was entirely...

    No Science Senior Year?

Two semesters of chemistry/two of physics makes a lot of sense---not sure why they would drop that requirement. Although as more of a humanities/social sciences/biology person, I am intrigued.

    Losing Appointment

Obviously the two schools are very different, but an email I saw from the University of Michigan indicated that a grade of D or F, or 3 or more C's second semester senior year was just cause to re-review the application/revoke admission. I would be shocked if one C would cause you to lose your...

    No Science Senior Year?

If you're more of a social sciences/humanities guy, I would really recommend AP Biology. I'm not a huge science guy either, but if you look at the way an advanced biology course is structured, it's very similar to a social studies class. I am taking it this year and really enjoying it. You...

    Why test out?

What classes can you test out of COMPLETELY? Learning a language has been something I'm passionate about, and I would definitely like to study abroad. I'm not exactly sure how that would work without knocking a few gen ed requirements out of the way.

    SLE Acceptance

Just a note to anyone not accepted to SLE: it means nothing in the application process. I was not selected for the program, despite high ACT's and a strong leadership/athletics record. I have already received acceptances to both USMA and USNA from a highly competitive congressional...

    Switching a class?

Hi all, I recently received an appointment to West Point. I have read through these boards quite a bit, but this is my first post. So, a little bit of a predicament: I'm currently in an AP English class that frankly, I'm not a big fan of. I don't get along with my teacher(a first), and find...
