    USNA Wait List–Information?

Totally different from what DS received. Impressive that one senator gave your DS nominations to all 3 academies. For here that's pretty unheard of. I'm thinking that some cutting and pasting didn't happen correctly. It seems odd that he'd rank for one opening at USNA, but do competitive for...

    USNA Wait List–Information?

For everyone who is so wrapped up on nominations, please go back and read the letters that you received from Senators/MOCs. Sen Schatz used the competitive method of nomination and blatantly states that USNA will make appointments from the list. Nothing about primary/principle or whatever. Rep...

    Tell us about your kid.

Some of the best military officers I know are women! :thumb:

    Tell us about your kid.

Good luck with that! I agree that DDs can be a bit more of a challenge. I'm guessing your DD is similar to mine who was/is a leader in everything and also rowed for a Div I school. She started becoming a normal person between 20-21, but I have yet to hear an apology. She does come to me for...

Class of 2018 mom and dad facebook page

Thanks for the tips! I got a quick reply from Doug too and sent him a pic of the appointment certificate. Any other sites that are good to look for info on?

    Still in the game

As a parent who had DD recruited by many Div I schools and the only Div III school she considered attending was MIT, I respectfully say that perhaps you don't understand college athletics and possibly the athletic aspects of the military. The SAs have produced several Olympian caliber athletes...

    Still in the game

There's a letter included with the BFE that also has those numbers. It'd be nice to know what they represent. With how frequently this thread gets posted to only a moderator may see this question and be able to answer it.

    Still in the game

Glad to hear no TWEs for you! Congrats on the USAFA! I saw another HI boy got an USAFA appointment too so great job. We haven't heard from USAFA, but DS really wanted USNA anyway. If anything your son can go to USAFA and then request a cross-commission. And the flights home will be easier!

Why haven't I been rejected yet?

It doesn't make sense to me that someone would need a nomination to go to NAPS or Foundation because you definitely need to go thru the nomination process again when you are in either program to get your appointment to USNA.

For Anyone Considering Varsity Athletics At USNA

Thanks! I understand the rowing schedule as they do head/foot races in the fall and then the regular season in the spring. I think it's the only sport that somehow skirts around the NCAA rules. Mine will be a lightweight.

For Anyone Considering Varsity Athletics At USNA

Is your son at USNA now or are you talking high school sports? We wondered if anyone does 2 varsity sports at USNA? DD is Div 1 Rower in Boston and her coach wouldn't allow it. DS is about to get 5 Varsity letters for HS this year (water polo, kayaking, canoe paddling, track, and volleyball)...

    A true Liberal Arts College

I agree with many of HornetGuy's posts but I wanted to add a few comments. The academies' purpose is to make military officers. What they learn there is the foundation of their military career. I have worked at many military commands. No one is allowed to discuss religion, sexual orientation...

    Still in the game

You should start a new thread with helpful tips like that! My youngest is currently selling GS cookies. Wonder if I should buy more and bring them to PPW? Are thin mints the best or do you also send others? We send Hawaiian candies/chocolates to our oldest at Northeastern every once in a while...

    Mailing appointment paperwork

For those who already have the BFE (or got it years ago) how did you mail back the signed paperwork and birth certificate? Did you just use the enclosed postage paid envelope? We only have 1 copy of DS's birth certificate and plan on enclosing the return SASE so when we'd get it back we know...

    Fluff Classes

At my son's school AP Calc BC is just a semester course. IMO you've proved yourself in math so perhaps you should fill some time with a computer class. You are trying to prep yourself for the plebe academics: http://www.usna.edu/Academics/Majors-and-Courses/Course-Requirements.php. If your...

Fate of NCAA gymnastics, boxing, fencing and rifle team

Yeah! Great news. Thanks for posting. :thumb: I do hope that they (all service academies) make triathlon a varsity sport this coming year since it'll be a NCAA Div 1 sport. It's not so much for the money (although that little bit helps), but for the recognition that comes with being on a...

    Admissions Board

I highly suggest that the candidates contact their admissions officer. My DS emailed his several times throughout the waiting period. She was a helpful, authoritative source of information! DS gave her updated information every 6 weeks or so and she always replied quickly to his questions. DS's...

    HS Graduation Trip Advice?

That's exactly what we're doing... last family vacation consisting of a 7 day Caribbean cruise followed by 7-8 days at Orlando theme parks then driving up to Annapolis and saying goodbye to his childhood! Maybe there will be several USNA soon-to-be-plebes on a NCL cruise?

    Neat thank yous for recommendors?

I was wondering if anyone had any neat ideas of how to thank the teachers, coaches, and others who wrote letters of recommendation which helped DS get into USNA. I know that sometimes kids forget to tell these people where they got accepted for college and much less thank them. Perhaps you have...

Parents at I-Day or Parents' Weekend?

There doesn't seem to be much traffic around BWI so that's my top choice for flights generally regardless of price, but I did just notice that there's a direct flight from IAD leaving at 8:50am arriving at 1:15pm in HNL. The direct to IAD leaves at 3:45pm. I'd look into that as layovers are the...
