    Marine Corps; Platoon Leaders Class

Hi Kinnem. :) My son is at a SMC (VT). He is not obligated to be in the Corps of Cadets as PLC contract. He still is though. He wants the discipline, structure, and the workout regiment. He is a VT Raider. They treat him no different and expect no less from him. He's at OCS right now and loving...

    Virginia Tech ROTC Questions

Since it was part of the discussion, for the record there are 348 incoming freshman (however I know of at least 1 that dropped this week) which brings the VTCC total to approx 1090 this year.

    rotc financial assistance

Many Universities will offer instate tuition to out-of-state NROTC College Programmers. Something to look into if you are not a Georgia resident. EDIT: just saw your Georgia Hope for Help comment. I'm guessing that means you area GA resident.

    No news for NROTC MO

We are in Grand Cayman and can't connect to the portal (connection gets rejected presumably since we are trying to access from outside the US). Not being able to check until the weekend is going to be torture!

Virginia Tech graduate / Active Duty

Thanks NavyHoops! We have visited VT already but DS is doing Stay the Night program 4/13-14. Kinnem, we will be visiting USC on 4/20. Staying at the Courtyard Marriott on campus. Campus tour and CEC tour are scheduled. I've asked my son to contact MOI to try and arrange a meeting with...

    Scholarship acceptance

School commitments are due May 1 so I assume we will know before then. Apr 1 would be great but worst case in a holding pattern until May 1. Tick tock...

Virginia Tech graduate / Active Duty

Does the same apply to NROTC MO? Will my DS have any better shot at active duty at VT than another school with NROTC? He wishes to be a Marine Infantry Officer. He was accepted at VT (and Corps of Cadets), South Carolina, Miami OH, Penn State, and Rutgers, (JMU also but off the table since no...

    Virginia Tech ROTC Questions

See my post edit. "Every incoming cadet for Fall 2014 was awarded this scholarship. For in-state cadets, the Emerging Leader Scholarship provides $8,000 over the four years of college. Out-of-State cadets are awarded $12,000 over four years." That was for the current year. Seems that all...

    Virginia Tech ROTC Questions

I found my own answer on the Emerging Leader Scholarship. 200 scholarships are awarded each year. 100 for in-state and 100 for out-of-state. Great that it is applied towards Room and Board so it can be combined with other scholarships. It states most are approx $6000. We were fortunate to...

    Virginia Tech ROTC Questions

My son was accepted to VT and also received the Emerging Leader Scholarship. I believe the only real 'consideration' that's given on the Application is that the application fee is waived. I don't believe it has any bearing on whether or not you are admitted to the school. Does anyone know...

NROTC - Marine option application References

Awesome info. Thanks. That post could have been written for my son. UVA is his first choice but I think it is a 40/60 shot he is admitted. His second choice is VT where his mother is an alumnae. He's already been accepted to Rutgers which is required to be in his top 3 as the in-state...

NROTC - Marine option application References

Thanks, guys. The application question changes when you toggle the 'option' on the first screen. I was afraid to let him do that for fear of losing work in case other pages/questions changed as well. When you select Navy it asks for a Math teacher. When you select Marine it asks for an...

NROTC - Marine option application References

I have two questions. From the App checklist: First, for reference #2, how do we know which teachers are acceptable for which options? My son's preference would be to use his Math teacher and he is applying for Marine option. Is a Math teacher OK for this option? Second, I find it...

    NROTC following medical DQ

Thank you for the response. Any help is certainly appreciated. I'm just trying to understand all options available. Yes, we are aware the other academies or branches are an option (their limits seem to be plus or minus 8). He is currently enrolled in the USNSCC which is why Navy is his...

    NROTC following medical DQ

I'm expecting my son to be medically disqualified for the USNA due to his eyesight. It is correctable to 20/20, however, he is -6.5 in one eye and -7 in the other. My understanding is that the limit for USNA is plus or minus 6. We will certainly file a waiver but have realistic expectations...
