    Acceptance Day

That's the thing that I think impressed me most about the academy. After BCT it amazed me how our son talked about his fellow cadets. I could tell it was a bond that would last a lifetime. These were his, and effectively our new family. For us it started on A-Day last year buying extra food and...

    USAFA Chances?

That's a good thing that your sport is a varsity sport. Is there a possibility of making captain ? It would be a plus if you could. I think I would focus solely on the ACT since you do better on it and your scores are already pretty competitive. Once again, keep working on raising that math...

    Acceptance Day

Leave your food, drinks, etc. in the car. After you meet up with your DS/DD you can go get your stuff and find a place to hang out and picnic. Many families find a place close by to lay down a blanket/set up folding chairs, etc.

    Acceptance Day

Like BlahuKahuna said, since your DS is a Cobra, he will be in one of the academic year squadrons 11-15. To determine which one he is in all you need to know is what flight he is in for basic. He is in either Cobra Alpha, Cobra Bravo, etc. There are 5 flights in Cobra (A,B,C,D or E). Each...

    USAFA Chances?

Jest, about the best assessment of your standing is the fact that USAFA has deemed you competitive. Just keep going forward step by step in your application/nomination process. Your numbers (CFA & academics) look good. You should continue to take the ACT over and over to get the highest...

    What a crazy ride.

Dad...congrats to you and your DS. Thank you for all your posts. I remember reading a lot of them when my DS was new appointee. You were always extremely helpful and informative. Thanks again and we wish you and your DS all the best. P.S. I've always been secretly jealous of your forum...

    CFA

I believe a Phys Ed teacher can administer the test also. That's who did DS's. But Boozebin is correct, double checking handbook is always wise.

    Acceptance Day

At the parade they gave a diagram showing where each squadron would be lined up across from the bleachers. Plus, each squadron has a flag with their sqadron number on it. When they are dismissed you can go straight to your son/daughter's squadron flag. They should be right there getting their...

    Acceptance Day

Last year's parade was at 9 a.m. We left our motel (just a couple miles outside the North Gate) at 7:45 a.m or so and had no problems getting in and finding a good seat. http://www.usafa.edu/superintendent/cma/newsletters/2015/May15.pdf This link states that this years Acceptance Day...

    Acceptance Day

I am not sure what time it starts this year, but I'm sure with a little research you can find out either online or from the parents club. Last year we arrived about an hour before the parade started and had no trouble getting seats. When we entered the parade field bleachers, they supplied us...

Will leadership in Civil Air Patrol be enough?

When our son (USAFA Class of 2018) was in high school we wondered if school leadership would be enough. I thought (opposite of your situation) that he needed to be in Civil Air Patrol or Scouts to have a better shot at getting in USAFA. What we have learned is that "enough" is not where you...

    Countdown begins....

Class of 2019: It has been awesome to see your journey through the scope of the forum. From applicants to appointees and tomorrow, Basics ! Before you know it, A-Day will be here and you will be a Cadet. We are all excited for you and know we will hear great things in the future. We wish...

    Addressing letters during Basic

Rogers is absolutely correct. Always refer to them as "Basic Cadet". Before DS left for I-Day last year, I made a point to let everyone (relatives, friends, etc.) know to address him as "Basic" also. DS let us know he definitely did not want that kind of attention from the cadre...

    Acceptance Standings?

ParkCore, there are so many unknowns that no one can account for and give you an accurate assessment of your chances/standings. Acceptance is not "everything" academics but it is very clear on the USAFA website and on different threads on this forum that academics is 60% of a candidate's...

    Prep School Offer... Need Advise!?!?

Congratulations PossiblePreppie2015! I wanted to have some input before the decision was made but I got in on the thread too late. Sounds like she made up her mind beforehand anyway! But just to let you know a little of our experience: My son was appointed directly out of high school. He...

    Immunization Question

Last year DS submitted his shot records with some being hand-written and signed by the nurse. He had no issues.

    Could use some help

This is a quote from AVT on another thread entitled "Do I Still Have a Chance" : "USAFA also recalculates your GPA based on the rigor of your courses and your high school's profile."
