    NMMI Question

Our DS attended NMMI last year. He was a "recruited" baseball player and is currently playing at KP. They found out that they got into KP in mid to late April. Due to the admissions office being currently understaffed, they are a bit behind. In regards to being a "recruited" athlete, it is not...

    Holds

USNavy2019, hang in there. Definitely visit Admissions to inquire about your situation. My DS received his offer to NMMI in May a couple of years ago. With the shortages in the Admissions office, I am sure they may be a bit behind than normal. There are a number of LOAs that go out with folks...

    California Candidates

To shed some light on the later than normal decisions as to acceptance or prep school offers, the admissions office is currently understaffed due to some retirements and folks moving to other jobs, therefore the process is a bit later than normal. My DS is from California and a M/N at KP. To...

    Prep school appts?

If he was accepted to NMMI he would have received a letter offering a slot and then a form asking if he wanted to go which had to be faxed and mailed back accepting a slot. This would be followed by a packet of information and forms to fill out.

    NMMI 2015

Your DS or DD will have to apply for a congressional or senatorial nomination again. NMMI will help them with the process. They will have to fill out the nomination package again along with letters of recommendation etc. They will also have to go through an interview again as well. Usually this...

    NMMI 2015

USMMA does pay for the flight there and the return flight at the end of the school year. We too are from Ca. and our son attended NMMI this past year as a sponsored prep. This is a fantastic opportunity to prepare him for KP.

    The dreaded "Hold" Status

From what my DS told us, cadets with a D or lower don't make the cut. Apparently that is what happened to a few of those that did not make it this year. There is ample assistance to the cadets to do well. The class sizes are very small so there is a good student to teacher ratio. They are...

    Traveling to NMMI

It had him attending NMMI. It does get confusing for people. Here in California they think that he is attending the California Maritime Academy! USMMA is not as well known as the Big 3 SAs but that is usually a good thing for those trying to get in. Far fewer to compete against for slots.

    The dreaded "Hold" Status

As far as the students that did not make it, about 3 did not return after the Christmas break for personal reasons. The remainder did not make it due to academics as far as our DS understood. When the sponsored prep attends Indoc this summer, they meet with a representative from USMMA to sign a...

    Traveling to NMMI

Our DS did not receive any formal recognition at graduation in the ceremony other than it being noted in the program along with all of the other students as to where they were going to school. Not sure if there is anything like that from NMMI. You will receive a package in the near future with...

    The dreaded "Hold" Status

Haze, Happy to PM you regarding questions about NMMI. Again, a FANTASTIC opportunity and way to get to KP! To answer the question about getting in to NMMI, we were not exactly sure on what got our DS in other than he must have been competitive yet fell a bit short on either GPA or an ACT/...

    The dreaded "Hold" Status

This usually means that you will be receiving an offer to be a sponsored prep at NMMI. Usually you get a call offering the slot and then posted on your status page. After the verbal offer and acceptance a formal letter of the offer will follow along with paperwork. If you are serious about...

    The dreaded "Hold" Status

He is playing baseball at NMMI and hoping to make the team at KP. He visited with both the football and baseball coaches at KP and decided on baseball. Probably a smart move not playing football at NMMI not only for the injury factor but also to concentrate on his academics

    The dreaded "Hold" Status

Our DS was recruited for football as well last year. It isn't a given that your DS will automatically get in based on sports alone. Our DS ended up going to NMMI as a sponsored prep and ended up playing baseball. If yours has a shot at NMMI, they can play there although it is a huge time...

    Traveling to NMMI

Our DS started there in the beginning of August. That is when they have all the sponsored preps attend. They are there about a week ahead of the rest of the non sponsored folks. During that time they do a lot of assessment exams to see which classes they should be placed in. They also start to...

    Traveling to NMMI

Travel to NMMI Congratulations on your DS attending NMMI next year. Ours is a sponsored prep for KP there right now. We are awaiting his acceptance to KP this week. Although a formality it is a bit nerve racking! Your DS is very lucky to get the prep slot. NMMI is a GREAT school (rated the...
