    USAFA vs USNA

22 December 2005 Young Man, Congratulations on your selection to both the Naval and Air Force Academies. Your goal of becoming a fighter pilot is impressive and a fine way to serve your country. As you requested, I'd be happy to share some insight into which service would be the best choice...

    100s night is THIS WEEK!!

Congrats all ! Those going to Columbus will have the opportunity to frequent Hank's #1 Championship Barbeque. Starksville (Miss St. Univ), Tuscaloosa, and Pensacola are common destinations during casual, but once UPT starts, location becomes a non-issue as the focus shifts to flying.

    AFSCs (JOBS!!!) Today!!

Exciting times! Congrats 2102! How soon do you put in your choice of base...and I'm assuming that's still part of 100s night. Ours is off to IFS next week...and starts UPT in November.

    Failing Knowledge Tests

Squads may restrict 4 digs on otherwise free weekends for poor performance (as a group) which could affect plans on fairly short notice.

Just a shout out to 2012

Enjoy the year 2012 ! With one on the other side (casual status at a UPT base), so far it reminds me of the end of the Band of Brothers - playing softball, and working out waiting for IFS and UPT to start. They know it's the calm before the storm, but are really looking forward to the...

    Cadet Parachuting

There is a lot of weekend traffic up to Longmont where cadets can build upon their first 5 jumps and complete AFF (accelerated free fall). I can't recall if that is 20 or 25 jumps. My son also took his roommate to Eloy, AZ to jump the week before Christmas, and the roommate was able to...

    Slightly Injured 2015 Appointee/Cadet

"Now what happens if I show up slightly sick? I got a pretty sore throat right now, but I'm doing my best to take care of it. I hope I'm just overreacting." I would try to get seen today.

Best wishes to the class of 2015!

Hard to believe but in the end you'll be surprised by how fast this goes by. I just sent our last letter to our graduate's Academy PO Box today wishing the new 2015 well and giving them some indication of the great things that might be coming their way. Thanks all for your willingness to...

Class of 2015 - Mailbox Stalkers Club

We met the parents of the #4 Thunderbird pilot at graduation - I asked if he was an Academy grad the reply was "no, he didn't get in." He did apply the following year, and received an appointment, but opted to stay at CSU. But they couldn't be prouder of their son, who they said "wanted to be...

AFA class of 2017 filling up!

Couldn't agree with you more flyer...I couldn't image my generation of post-Vietnam Boomers doing anything equivalent to what this generation has endured over the past decade. Much more self-less than self-centered. "Giving back" for my generation is standing there with your hand open. If...

    Academy Paraphernelia

The AOG sells squad pins on-line which we always have wore on our lanyards or photo IDs at work. One actually got me out of a speeding ticket. Cadets are assigned to an initial squadron as a 4 dig, then are shuffled to their permanent squadron for the remainder of their academy career. So we...

    Class of 2015 Inprocessing

Best moment at the Chapel wall on I-day 2007 was a cadet who "signed" his mother "I love you" while at attention with hand at his side. Amazing pic with a high power lens, and not a dry eye among the crowd.

    Class of 2015 Inprocessing

A couple of thoughts... When reporting to Doolittle for I-day it's probably best not to be the first ones there, rather time it so you're in the middle of the pack. You'll encounter a line, but it'll be an opportunity to to meet those standing by you, and have a little more time together...

    Wisdom teeth extraction

Does anyone know why this remains a requirement? Does this apply to all cadets or just those going to UPT? Is there truly a rationale or is akin to the prophylactic appendectomies previously done in the space program.

    Jump Wings!

For most it's an Academy highlight when they earn your jump wings...yours has had a nice run with soaring, powered flight and now jump. Congrats !

Friendly Advice concerning Budget Cuts at AFA

This is great advice...like the line-up of classic cars in the Karate Kid...before Mr Miyagi says "choose" it takes a lot of work. Don't get cynical, retain the passion and desire you have as an applicant, and in the end, you may just get what you wish for. Nothing worthwhile comes easy.

Air Force Wings of Blue Jump into the Discover Orange Bowl 2011

They are fellow classmates. Ours was assigned to the Independence Bowl (AF v. Georgia Tech) after being moved from the Insight Bowl in Tempe (AF leadership wanted a team in Shreveport).

    Summer Program Space

He can still do jump his senior year. My son's roommate earned his jump wings last semester and accompanied my son to Eloy, AZ the week before Christmas where he completed AFF and got about 30 jumps in. He even got his own gear. I'm not familiar with Space but I think one of the alumni can...
