If you want it - don’t give up!

I can totally relate to this. I never knew it at the time, but my father had many of the same concerns you have voiced right now. After I graduated, he shared with me what he had thought about my path at the time. He told me that there were multiple times he almost voiced his opinion against...

If you want it - don’t give up!

First off - you have to do the cliche things which generally make you be successful. As my mentor at the Academy told me (also an F-22 guy) “work hard be a bro, that’s it.” But obviously extend it to everything you would expect. Work out, study hard, sleep, etc... Start developing good habits...

If you want it - don’t give up!

Yes, I did. I had a Type 7 converted to a type 2, so I had used one of the three years by the time I got accepted. Even though I got accepted before my second semester of college that year, and the Air Force knew I would be leaving to go to USAFA, they insisted I stay in college for another...

If you want it - don’t give up!

I throw this thread out every year as the as the appointments (and rejections) start rolling. Please feel free to ask any/all questions about the various topics. I was a three time applicant to USAFA, and am glad I did it! Below is where I started, where I’ve been, and where I am. Just because...

I'd like to revive this thread for any who may be interested in the topics above (see page 1 post for complete list). I try to do this at least once per year. In addition to the experiences listed above - I commissioned in May of 2018, and attended SUPT at Laughlin AFB. I dropped my aircraft...

Badger, Yeah that is rare, in fact I haven't heard of that before as they typically try to deconflict any prior relationship someone may have had as best as they can. -Nilet

Badger, 1) Not sure. The admissions office is on its own schedule, and any rumors you hear about timelines that they have are likely just - rumors. 2) You will be reassigned to a new squadron. When I worked BCT this summer, there were several people who were in this situation, and although...

Hey everyone - this time of year I typically bring this thread back to the top of the list as I think it can be helpful for those who fall into my similar situation. The original post reads: "Back at it again, I like to start a thread a few times per year for this because I get so many...

Christcorp, I definitely know you don't need any answers - I've seen you on here since I submitted my first application back in 2011! At any rate - I should should have probably clarified that since the start of this post back in October, I have actually withdrawn myself from the BullDawg...

I actually did not go to a prep school! I was a direct AFROTC Scholarship recipient, and therefore went to College at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota for two years. As far as what it was that got me in, it was several things combined. The third time I shamelessly pursued a principle...

Typically - once she shows interest in coming to the Academy (which she can do now), a recruiter will notice her if she has a shot. Some things that she can do in order to boost her chances would be to register for sports recruiting websites, update statistics and profile, and/or contact the...

This is actually a pretty common questions! So what I will pass on about this subject is the best advice I have ever gotten - major in something you like and can perform in. Period. The reason for this is that grades play such a pivotal role in your stratification as a cadet, and stratification...

Just food for thought for everyone: ANY Commissioning source is great - the fact that you are all willing to serve in general speaks monuments to your character. With that in mind - don't stop if you feel that USAFA is your final goal. I promise, after two declinations, countless grey hairs...

I honestly can't say that it was any different, but I think it shifts your focus a bit. You will have a little bit of a head start on the basic military functions such as marching, decorum, and uniform wear - however USAFA is much, much different than what I expected. Don't keep your head down...

    For Those Awaiting an Appointment/TWE

Just a quick heads up - I was over at the admissions office gathering recruiting supplies two days ago, and was carefully guarded by all admittance staff as to stay away from the work booths. There is still a lot of sensitive information being shuffled around the office, apparently, so don't...

Good, keep up the persistence! To answer your questions: 1. I kept applying to USAFA out of pure desire to come to a place where I had wanted to be since I was about 12. I looked at USAFA as the means to an ultimate goal. Every day I would wake up and ask myself the question "Would I be able to...
