    SAT/ACT Study Tips Needed!

I earned pretty good scores and I feel like almost anyone can get solid scores without exerting an inordinate amount of effort. Sometimes it's not about how hard you work, but how effectively. Here are some words of advice I wish I had about a year and a half ago: 1. I would recommend you to...

I'm a Cow at USMA, AMA (Ask Me Anything)

Do you know if Operations Research students are considered engineer students? Or do they have to take a 3rd semester of a foreign language?

Kristen Griest is the first female infantry officer

Glad to see that a woman was given an opportunity like this one and succeeded. I think it really shows that females have a lot more potential than many people think and under proper conditions, they can do close to anything that any man can do. This makes me wonder though, could this lead to...

    Varsity Letter crucial?

How big of a hole did he dig? Can he get back into the top 20% of his class? A lot of people will probably disagree with me on this, but imo sometimes you have to do things you don't want to get what you do want. I played a sport in that I did not enjoy for 3 years in high school. I invested a...

AP exams, impact on class placement

    No, a 3 is a passing score. Only a 1 and a 2 are failing.

How difficult are the required foreign language classes at USMA?

AP exams, impact on class placement

If I get a 3 on an AP exam (English in particular), according to the USMA website, it doesn't look like it will help me validate anything. But will a 3 result in me being placed in a higher level class?

Weighing My Options: ROTC vs. SMC vs. AFA

For a SMC you are guaranteed an active duty slot. You can also choose to go into the reserves, but if you want an active duty slot you will get one. Do you care what you major in? For Texas A&M you aren't gaurenteed the major that you want. At USAFA you are. For example, if you want to be a...

If you're going to critique someone else's grammar at least use proper grammar yourself. S/B "too"

    Tardies....

USNA doesn't ask for a recommendation from a history teacher. They ask for a recommendation from a math teacher from you junior or senior year as well as an English teacher from your junior or senior year.

    Tardies....

A sample size of 1 isn't very meaningful. For the USNA application there is no option on the candidate portal to submit an LOR from a coach. If USNA actually cares about a coach's LOR and they give applicants points for having good LOR's from coaches, why wouldn't USNA ask applicants for LOR's...

    Standardized Tests

Unfortunately for you, Asians are not considered an URM by USMA, or by any college that I know of. Actually some colleges take points away from Asians and make it harder for them to get in than even the racial majority(Caucasians).

    Standardized Tests

The ACT/SAT is the probably easiest way to increase your WCS. It is 30% of your WCS and it's not extremely difficult to increase your score by a couple points. Even if you have a good ACT/SAT score(ie 31 or 2100) I'd still retake it because USMA superscores. I took the ACT 5 times and ended up...

New retirement plan, impact on 2020 cadets

I read that people who enter the service after January 1, 2018 are automatically given the new retirement plan while people who enter the military before that and after 1/1/06 can choose which one that they want. Since West Point cadets are active duty, will cadets that enter WP prior to 1/1/18...

    Slightly High Cholestrol

I don't mean this to be aggressive and I apologize if it comes off that, but where are you getting this information? Do you work for DoDMERB/a service academy? I do not. All of the information I know about DoDMERB is based off of what I have read online (mostly on this forum), and therefore...

    Slightly High Cholestrol

And is it not very reasonable to assume that the blood test was not conducted by the doctor? The fact of the matter is we do not know the OP has been diagnosed by a doctor or not.
