Are Verbal heavy ACT scores still good?

I honestly don't know if USNA weighs Math more than English or not. I do know that my son is part of the Class of 2019 and had those exact ACT scores in English and Math. I'm guessing, those scores were good enough to get him in from our area, but would not have been good enough if he lived in...

Service Selection - Marine Pilot Draft?

I think that what you said about PROTRAMID rings true. My son was considering Marine Air before PROTRAMID this past summer. Now, he leans toward Navy Air and Marine Ground and plans to take trainings next summer to help him know more about both. He said something about Marines not putting money...

    General Hobbies Thread

I use a DIY one. The first one I bought was just a cheap one from Fox Outfitters. I bought one for my son during a Buy One Get One Free sale, and I got the free one. That's what got me into it. I ended up making myself an underquilt for it. The underquilt really makes a difference. Since then...

What are my chances for getting into the Naval Academy?

I think STEAM is STEM, but with Arts added into the mix.

Why do people attend the Academy?

Welcome to South Dakota! I live in Custer. I hope you'll get a chance to enjoy the many beautiful hiking trails in the Black Hills this fall. Also, if anyone ever offers to take you snowmobiling, take them up on it. I had never been snowmobiling until we had a search and rescue training about...

    USNA 2/C Weekend

We had a great time over the Parents Weekend. I really enjoyed sitting in on several classes and meeting his friends and their parents. It kind of stunk that most of our Mids had an Electrical Engineering exam at 6:55 this morning. I'm sure mine didn't study as much as he needed to. :(

    Questions about NOLS travel

There are scholarships that Mids can apply for, both through NOLS and the Naval Academy Foundation. My son did the Wind River trip in Wyoming last year. I think they were out for 25 days. He had a great time and learned a lot. They will receive training on leadership and take turns leading...

Today 2/23 - Navy Plebe in Jeopardy Finals

I don't know how I did it, but last night, I was thinking he would have had $42,000 somehow. I guess that's why I'm not on Jeopardy. Sorry for the misinformation.

Today 2/23 - Navy Plebe in Jeopardy Finals

If he had bet $6,000 in Final Jeopardy, he would have won. He got the final question right, and MIT got it wrong. Unfortunately, he had only bet $4. I wouldn't have bet anything on my knowledge of 17th Century Germans either.

    Please Don't Be That Parent

I agree that personal finance is very important. At our public high school, the kids take a one semester Personal Finance class based upon Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace Program. I love that my kids have an opportunity to take this class. It has opened discussion about how we handle our own...

I'm feeling it.... how about you?

Navy's injuries last weekend probably helped your cause. But, I'm hoping the Youngster quarterback can step up and do the job. Go Navy! Beat Army!

    Chances?

If I'm not mistaken, the Naval Academy looks at Math and English for the ACT, not Math and Reading...or at least they did two years ago. It might have changed.

    Lowering of Physical Standards

I like the way fitness levels are administered for wildland fire fighting. All wildland firefighters must meet minimum levels of fitness requirements for the type of duties they are assigned. The positions are broken down into arduous, moderate, and light. All firefighters, male or female, who...

    Am I Finished?

As I recall, you find out on your DODMERB portal first. My son logged in and checked every day when he was waiting on a response from DODMERB.

    Visit your mother....

I'm so thankful I got to go back and visit my mother in early October. She passed away on Saturday, and I would have less peace about it if I had not been blessed with that last sad, but sweet, visit. Visit your mother...and make sure she knows you love and appreciate her.
