A former Army West Point Football player in the NFL now

also wasn't a fan of the Steelers until they drafted Cortez Allen, a fellow Citadel graduate. Bravo to Villanueva for honoring his service commitment and still pursuing a professional career, wish him well and respect his determination.

New retirement proposal bad for grads?

for what its worth to anyone - retired ARNG Officer with another 2+ years before collecting my "generous" retirement; didn't join the military expecting to get rich or life a luxurious old age on the governments dime, I am grateful for what I will receive and will be much better off than most...

    Resignation from USMA

I came very close to quitting The Citadel my knob year but sure glad I stuck it out and would do it again. If a military school and military career truly aren't for you then don't beat a dead horse but don't be a quitter either. When the going gets tough the tough get going so learn to handle...

    Am I ready for USNA

FSAs, The Citadel and VMI are not for couch potatoes or party animals, if you are worried about a social life your first year maybe you are pursuing the wrong school. Your privileges will gradually increase but the focus is on academics and military training so just understand what you are...

yes, a lot of questionable ratings these days but at least this one has solid fact to back it up. No 'gaming the system' here.

Former Stanford dean explains how helicopter parenting is ruining a generation of children

there is clearly a line between being an involved parent and being an overbearing helicopter parent. When you have parents attending job interviews with their children or treating them like they are 8 years old and trying to do everything for them its a problem. I definitely feel attending an...

    Training

cant speak for all the SMCs but so far as I know it does not get significantly easier after initial training and at VMI and The Citadel there is no 'civilian' aspect or less strict part of the plebe system.

Ranking in USA Today Includes VMI

everybody and their mother keeps putting out some kind of list anymore. There are about as many college lists as reality shows and its hard to take either seriously.

    Citadel Honors and Scholars Invitations

not an expert on the subject and not to be a wet rag - 1260 is a very competitive SAT, ideally they want someone in the top 10% of their class and you are probably talking a minimum 3.7 GPA to have a strong chance. They do however look heavily at extracurriculars and 'intangibles'. Give it...

    Citadel Vs. VMI

yeah, with NAS you just don't know whether to laugh, cry or just puke. Did I mention that The Citadel got 13 votes in this weeks FCS Coaches Poll and that we are now on the Sagarin Power 150 list?

    Citadel Vs. VMI

lets state the obvious; the first choice of most young people seeking a military career are the FSAs, and in most cases its simply because they are free. DODs own surveys show that only 15% of those attending the FSAs do so because they want a military career; its the lure of a free education...

    Citadel Vs. VMI

I love my M-1 carbine even if it doesn't have the punch of some "big guns" - LOL. The Citadel commissions the most Army officers of any ROTC program and is usually the leader in producing Marine Officers. As for more academically challenging probably a tossup, VMI has a lower acceptance rate...

    article on Citadel networking
