    Why Did You Choose USMMA?

KP was my first choice. According to my parents I saw a Great Lakes ore boat on the Detroit river at age 4 and pointed at it and said I wanted to be on a ship. I wanted to go to Great Lakes Maritime until I learned about KP and then that was it. Been a great ride ever since sailing on some...

    Sea year and sports

1.5 days only on training ships. Not sure how it works for cadets assigned to vessels that can count 12 hrs days as I never had to deal with that- I would assume the could get 1.5 like the rest of the crew. Regular commercial days are 1:1.

    Sea year and sports

As of 2 years ago when I left the position of Director of Waterfront Operations and Training at KP we were using that matrix to count midshipmen sea time, and it had been pretty recently implemented. Midshipmen at all schools are getting 1.5 day when underway. For mids who were short days we...

    Sea year and sports

Each academy used to have its own approval for sea time from the USCG. A few years ago a common system was implemented for all of the academies. Attached is the sea service matrix used to calculate midshipmen sea time.

    Sea year and sports

It's actually not in the CFR's but in the USCG program approval letter for the USMMA curriculum. Kings Pointer days can count 1.5 for 1 but only if the vessel is underway. It gets more complicated and is different for deckies and engineers, but it is possible to get 1.5.

The KP waterfront is a unique environment that allows you to relax, have fun, play with some amazing boats, and learn an amazing amount about being a better mariner. If you want to be the best football...

    Inland vs. Offshore

Not sure you question makes sense. Hornbeck is about 2/3 through a multi year newbuild program. The new vessels come on line as they are launched. I work aboard one that was launched in August.

    Inland vs. Offshore

Take DP on your own- you can start getting the 30 familiarization days you need after that on the Kings Pointer. Most gulf companies won't hire you anymore without having already taken the basic class.

    New Kings Pointer

The pier should be finished by April. Kings Pointer should be at the dock before that, hopefully by mid-March.
