Active Duty vs. Reserves and Civilian Career

@nikkuwadde Congratulations. Your acceptances [NROTC, GU, UC] all point to one thing, you are smart. Your post also indicates you need money to finish college [with out loans]. It appears [I may be wrong] that you are thinking NROTC may be a way to pay for college. My suggestion/thoughts...

AROTC Has Not Gone As Planned or Hoped

@Future2LtMom ..."We're sad, angry, & disappointed, all at the same time"............. ..."He said he also doesn't like sitting in a classroom listening to a lecture that drones on & on. He's happiest when he's "doing something", such as FTXs, PT, coming up with strategy, etc."...... Hi Sounds...

    NROTC Commitment

@Capt MJ Ohh. Thank you for clarifying that. So it doesn't matter how many years of AD, you have to in addition serve 3 years of active reserve!!

    NROTC Commitment

@Capt MJ Thank you for the link and the reply. So if you get called for AD while in reserve are you allowed to depart at the end of a total of 8 years of combined previous AD, reserve and the current AD or you have to serve beyond the total 8 years, until released by the Navy?

NROTC Changing Majors with in Tier 3

My son is a Tier 3 scholarship recipient. He wants to consider changing his major from international relations to business major [both not Tier 1 or Tier 2]. How does he go about doing this? Who does he apply to? I understand that there is a chance of loss of scholarship but this is a change...

    NROTC Commitment

NROTC scholarship holders owe back 5 years of active service and 3 years of reserve. I want to clarify the reserve duty commitment. 1) Does it mean they have to report for training once a month for 3 years and that is it? 2) Or during the 3 years of reserve duty they can be called back for...

    NROTC ISR approval process

@futremil54 I know it is frustrating. You can definitely contact your regional NROTC contact. Our regional coordinator [I am not using the correct terminology] was very helpful, including the local University CO. I suggest you contact them both [if you have a Uni. CO/recruiter] asking for a...

Should we Test for Asthma or Wait ?

@MissouriFam There is nothing much you can do here. The results will go to DoDMERB and then it waits for the physician to review it. It could be a few weeks or it could be a few months.

    NROTC ISR approval process

@ProudDad17 @JadeMom Be patient. If the CO says he got it, then he got it, except some times it takes several months [after the board] before you hear back. In my son's case he was told they will let him know after they have interviewed all the candidates. Then we never heard back. When my son...

    NROTC ISR Interview

@Nairevy No. It is very similar to the interview with your local CO. Relax it is no different. Be yourself. In most cases they interview 13 to 14 kids for 8 to 9 spots. If selected they may ask you to sign on right away [they give 2 to 3 days to accept the scholarship] or some times it may...

Waiver Authority Requests Additional Medical Info

@runxc8 The remedial letter will clearly state where you need to fax the information to, it is to DODMERB with the last 4 of your SS number on the fax. Then DODMERB will either DQ or pass you. If DQ'd then it is up to the academies or ROTC to decide if they want to ask for a waiver [This may...

    DQ'd, now what

@A6EDad Being DQ'd is a routine procedure. After the DQ all DQ's are sent for a waiver decision. Here is the catch this may take a loooooooooong time. But will be considered for waiver with out any input from you. Do not depair, they will evaluate the letters sent by your pulmonologist and...

Should we Test for Asthma or Wait ?

@Dsmcse My son had the diagnosis of Asthma in his medical records [incorrect diagnosis]. He also had used inhalers one time during a severe upper respiratory infection after the age of 13. Mom had filled inhalers as a precaution once a year but they were never used apart from the one episode at...

Should we Test for Asthma or Wait ?

@Dsmcse As long as it was at age 7 and you have not filled any more inhalers after the age of 13 you WILL be fine. When you fill the DODMERB questionnaire answer accurately. If it asks if you were "ever" diagnosed with asthma then the answer is yes. But they ask if you had asthma "after" 13...

    NROTC ISR!!

@Willow99 Most of the NROTC scholarships are for science majors. Tier 3 is for non science majors. Usually only about 50 scholarships are available for this category where as there are around 1000+ overall scholarships. So the chances of getting a tier 3 scholarship is much less.

    NROTC ISR Interview

@futremil54 First of all congratulations on being considered for an ISR. Only very few in each of the regions get called for an ISR. I think it is like 15 called for interview and about 8 to 9 get the ISR or some thing like that [not exactly sure about the numbers]. Do not put any pressure on...

    AFROTC Asthma Waiver?

@AFLOVE Take a deep breath and relax. Yes the correct process is DQ. Then AFROTC will automatically ask for the waiver. You do not have to spend [I recommend not to] money on getting the Methacholine test. They may just want the pulmonary function tests. If AFROTC wants methacholine test [some...

    Asthma Questionnaire questions

@A6E Dad The word is "DIAGNOSED" with. Get the medical records from your pediatrician. If there is a diagnosis of any of the above then you have to say yes. If not, then say no. Don't get too worried. They will send your son/daughter to remedial. If there is no true history of asthma [diagnosed]...

    Training with Shin Splints

@ilanag3 Based on my experience: 1) Best way to prevent shin splints is to stretch thoroughly after your run. 2) Buy the foam rollers [or go to a gym that has one] and use them at the end of the run. Make it a part of your routine stretching regimen, they help quiet a bit. 3) Good pair of shoes...
