INDOC was difficult. The PT wasn't as bad as I thought, however I went in good shape before hand. Other people had a harder time. The mental part was most challenging, with the yelling all the time and having to memorize a lot of rates in only three weeks under pressure. Day by day was slow and...

I know plenty of the Coast Guard cadets! I am not sure what their pay is, I think it's the same as ours. About $400 a month.

That's right. As long as your grades are up to standard, you don't get into any trouble, and you pass the PRT, you're in. The only thing we redo is the nomination process and we have to resubmit the Personal Information part on the application to the Academy, without the essay. It's not a bad deal.

    NAPS Class of 2018 Thread!

I didn't find out until April 11!! It was the longest six months of my life

If you got accepted to NAPS already, call your congressmen and all those people and ask if you even have to resubmit. Some people had to redo one (me) and some only had to do an essay. I completed as much as I could with the information I had before NAPS. I was able to complete one full...

I didn't find out about NAPS until April, and I didn't submit until about May, or even June... I'd say as soon as you can. It's not a big rush until it gets closer to July

    NAPS Chances

I'm not sure if those are the old SAT scores or not but I got a 520 in Math and 590 in English. I'm half way through NAPS right now! Good luck.

There are only two types of people here (that I know of, at least): directs from high school and prior-enlisted.

I have a couple friends here who are here without a nomination, in hope for one when they reapply this year. If they apply for all of the nominations they can and still don't get one, the Secretary of the Navy has some for us and there are a couple of other sources.

It all looks good to me. Honestly, I'm not the best person to ask about that kind of stuff. It really depends on so much more, like your high school's size and what state you're in. One thing I'd suggest is to take that ACT again, or maybe even the SAT. Low scores get to NAPS but it's hard to...

There are a lot of priors here. They're automatic leaders during INDOC and during the rest of the year. I always go to them for advice. They like it because of the liberty, they get their cars (we do too, but a lot of directs just don't have them) and because they get paid by their current...

In my case, I had a 4.0 GPA in high school, however my SAT from the old test was only a 1680 and wasn't up to par with everyone else's that entered the class of 2020. There are people here for physical help too, such as not getting a high enough score on the CFA.

For the most part, yes. Most of us are here because our test scores weren't up to their normal standards. Actually, the class of 2020 at USNA had the highest SAT/ACT scores in history so that's a little hard to compete with coming from a small school.

Nope, it doesn't. It's really just a practice plebe year.

I found out on April 11, 2016; it was really late. I found out over an email about a portal change. Now, I'm taking physics, chemistry, english, and math courses. If I test out of these courses during Plebe Summer, then I'll just move onto the next course. For example, if I test out of...

There are plenty of them! This is the best place for anyone the Academy thinks can do well. Whether it's their academics that need a little more polish or their physical readiness isn't exactly there yet, we're always improving here.

I was thinking the same way as your son. I did not want to go any other way; my goal is Marine Corps and I didn't apply for any other academies simply because I didn't see myself in any other branch. I, too, fell short with my test scores. I believe it's the reason why I'm here at NAPS. Here...
