Class of 2022 DIY USNA Appointment Thread

As to the number of reported LOAs, I seem to recall that the reporting of LOAs was not really encouraged (there was no formal 'format' for reporting) until last year. I suspect the list for the classes of 2019 and 2020 had members with LOAs that were not reported. In fact, I think I remember...

    Looking back from USNA

Just another perspective. DS spent last year on a NROTC scholarship and is now a member of the Class 2021. USNA was his 'dream.' He and his high school girlfriend have survived - so far. He is happy at USNA. Does it suck? Yes. Does he miss the freedom of regular college? Of course. Does...

    CVW someone?

IMO, if you can afford it, she should go. While different than SS or SLE, it will give her an idea of what the Naval Academy is all about. My DS went as a junior. In some ways, CVW may give her more insight than NASS. That was the case for my DS. And, if you can afford it, you should go...

    CIS Class of 2021

DS has an appointment for the Class of 2021 and has completed his Sponsor Family Questionaire. Is there any reason he'll need to check his portal again? As an aside, after two years of checking the portal (DS was waitlisted last year) for any update, good news or bad news, I strangely have...

    USNA Waiting List c/o 2021

Last year about this time the login and password changed. Your old candidate number should work for another couple of weeks. beantown31 may have PM'ed it to you. Otherwise, a quick email to your AC will solve the problem. Good luck.

Attending a School on NROTC Hopes (Georgia Tech)

My DS has spent the last year at GT on a NROTC scholarship. I can report that he has had a great experience and you really can't go wrong with a commission and degree from GT. Why not start by calling the unit? The permanent staff has a vested interest in filling the unit with good midshipmen...

    Wait List

Galileo is right. That parent is me. DS turned down an appointment to USMA to re-apply to USNA. And, yes, I'm a graduate of USMA...

    Wait List

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm not certain the wait list really works the way you are envisioning. For the past several years, the class has been over-subscribed. In other words, they exceeded their target class size. When one person declines, USNA doesn't necessarily turn...

    Portal Change

army2021: Not sure what happened (don't want to know), but I wish USMA could see the way you handled this thread. Appropriate candor, humility and grace. Well done. Good luck in the future and with your reapplication. Go Army, Beat Navy

    NROTC "Transfer" to USNA

No, that's above my level of involvement. DS said it was a 'form' and a 'letter' submitted at the end of the semester. He said the unit and USNA let the NROTC command in Pensacola know of the appointment. Didn't sound that hard. Important, but not hard.

    NROTC "Transfer" to USNA

My DS was told the same by his LT Advisor (a Naval Academy graduate - not that it matters). His NROTC unit has sent a couple of kids to the Naval Academy and the LT Advisor has proven to be extremely competent/reliable. BTW, the unit has been very supportive too. All around great experience...

    College Re-applicants 2021

Navy92: Thanks for restarting this thread. It's comforting to know your DS' & DD's are still waiting too. DS was wait listed last year and back at it this year. He has a couple of kids in his NROTC unit reapplying. As far as we know, they're still waiting too.

College Transcript - how long does it take to post?

Anne: Another data point for you, my DS' transcript posted yesterday after being sent on 12/19. Back to the dreaded "complete pending review."

DS is in the same boat. Sent 12/19 (email and regular mail); still not posted. Like ktnatalk said, not worried, yet...

    NROTC NOMINATION TO USNA

DS is in the middle of this process too. I agree with usnabgo08 (of course), but would add two caveats. The NROTC nomination also requires a letter of recommendation from the CO. Hopefully, this recommendation carries a little weight. After all, in my DS' case, it's written by an active duty...

    RIDE IS OVER

I'll echo a couple of comments above. I know from personal experience that staying is often the easy decision. For most kids (and it sounds like your DS is in this group), it is much harder to leave than just suck it up and carry-on. You're proud of him for many reasons, having the courage to...
