    Genetic testing and DODMERB qualifications

Hi there. I've done a couple searches and come up empty, so I apologize if I missed a previous thread. Does anyone have experience with genetic testing and DODMERB/ARMY regs for discharge? For instance, if a person is tested and comes up positive for a genetic predisposition for a disease, but...

Army ROTC Scholarship kids more scholarly than athletic

We just made a quick trip to visit DS at his University (2000 miles round trip!) and to watch a football game. As we talked about ROTC, DS mentioned on several instances that the scholarship cadets were all more academically inclined that athletically inclined. He commented that at least 2 of...

    SF86

So, how 'bout that SF86, eh? It's a doozie. Is it a good idea to keep a copy of that for the next time around? I think I read somewhere that those forms have to be re-submitted every 5 years. And it sounds like DS will need to keep a good journal of residences, employment, etc. He was not...

What don't I know enough about to know about?

Hello! As the mom of a newly contracted AROTC cadet, what do I need to know? I'm absolutely certain that I don't even know enough to know the best questions to ask! Fire away! Give me your best tips on how to support my cadet. How can I learn from your lessons? I can't wait to hear what comes...

Zero week started today for my AROTC son. Who else?

Zero week will begin in 3 minutes at 0745 Mountain Time at the Univ of Wyoming. I'm not there, my ex took my son to school. I'm so excited for him and can't wait to hear what is happening. He takes the APFT on Wednesday at 0530. Who else has a cadet off to school for their "first day?"

    Army Cadet Command on Facebook

I just wanted to give some props to Army Cadet Command for their social media work on Facebook. It seems to me, as a mother of an incoming cadet so what do I really know, that they are posting a lot of information and videos so that families can follow along with their cadets during summer...

    AROTC basic training?

Hello! As my DS gets closer to starting his AROTC career, he and I are getting more questions about the process. One we've had several times recently is, "will he go to basic?" What is a good answer to explain what happens? He is a 4-year scholarship winner.

    Boots...

Hey gang. I'm taking my son's senior photos for him. I have this smart idea to include shoes in a photo...the cowboy boots he wears every day, his football cleats, wrestling shoes, track cleats, and finally, to indicate the future, combat boots. Would I be able to get something reasonably close...

How does AROTC 4-yr rate vs Academies?

My son's high school awards assembly is coming up. We expected that he would be honored during the ceremony regarding his 4-year national scholarship with a visit from the local Battalion during the assembly. Then yesterday he was told by the Administration that they only recognize students...

What's the 4-1-1 on Zero Week

I just heard tell of zero week. I searched the forum and found only one thread. Is this something that families stay around town for? What types of things happen? The dates begin before official campus move in.

    Mom brag

My 4-year AROTC winner just finished 2nd at his wrestling regionals and is now headed to sectionals. Look mom, no injuries! Part of me wants him to not run track this year to avoid injury between now and contracting. Any other moms/dads out there on pins and needles through the rest of the...

    Open PMS positions

We're sorry to see the PMS we've been working with for a year now is retiring. His position is listed here. I thought others might like to see the schools with PMS changes coming up this summer. http://www.cadetcommand.army.mil/files/2016_School_Vacancy_List.pdf

Remedial requested med records but there are none

DodMERB has DS listed as remedial: R220.00 Provide copies of all medical and surgical records regarding right knee strain - Feb 2015 As was clearly indicated in the physical paperwork, he never was seen by a doctor, only the wrestling team trainer who advised he wear a brace for the remainder...

    AROTC online/app personality test?

I'm just curious as to how the AROTC multiple choice personality test that is built into the app portal is weighted in the overall "whole person" score? It seems that given the similarity of so many other aspects of applicants' resumes, that this portion could really be a game changer, yet it is...

What if doc doesn't complete initial exam paperwork?

DS's status on DodMETS website is COMPLETE-hold. The reason for the hold is that the contracted physician has not provided all the answers required in the paperwork after 4 contacts from Concorde this week. The exam was 12/31/15. Paperwork submitted to DodMETS on 1/4/16. I spoke with the woman...

Do we expect to hear from DodMERB after AROTC exams?

My son has completed the required DoDMERB exams and the DODMETS website indicates they've received the reports from the physicians. Should we expect a communication indicating that nothing else is needed (no waivers) or is this a case where you will only hear from them if a waiver is needed?
