Naval Academy parent whose DD attended USAFA SS

Just a quick note from an "outsider" - DD had an AWESOME time at AFA SS. Felt great about the cadets and her fellow attendees, loves the location (of course) and is stoked about the whole experience. We loved the parents briefing, too!

    Surviving Plebe Summer

Well, the first phone calls and letters are in the books, Waldo Hunting is the official summer activity, the 2nd set of Detailers are waiting in the wings and most Plebe Parents are laser-focused on PPW. I've written about our I Day and Plebe Summer experience extensively (but know better than...

We visited USCGA and met a lot of 4/C

My son goes to the Naval Academy, which has sparked interest in my daughter in applying to the military academies. Toward that end, we took self-guided tours of West Point & USCGA last weekend. At CGA, we met A LOT of 4/C students and, must say, they were incredibly friendly, helpful and more...

Class of 2020 passes Point of No Return

Most of the Class of 2020 signed their 2 for 7s this week. Amazing how much stress this generated ... one of DS's best buddies failed a final shot at the PRT right before the Reform and will separate from the Academy. Texted back and forth with a Mid Mom for a few hours ... her son is agonizing...

Collecting some I-Day, Plebe Summer, Plebe Year thoughts

I can't believe it's almost that time. The Class of 2021 is about to finish finals, roll into Sea Trials and climb Herndon. Before we know it, the Class of 2022 Induction Day will be here! I know there are a few threads on that subject, but I thought I'd aggregate a few bits of information...

    Class of 2020 attrition

During Plebe Summer 2016 (class of 20's PS), we had a some discussion about attrition. From my, um, research, it looks right now like they class of 2020 has lost about 80 Mids since I-Day. That's about 2.5% attrition heading into Spring Semester 2018.

How we helped our son survive Plebe Summer

Class of 2021 Parents: I should have posted this earlier, but better late than never I guess. Here are some suggestions and tips for helping your Plebe get through the grueling six weeks that are Plebe Summer. And this is lengthy, so apologies if I eat up a few minutes of our life that you'll...

A different perspective as you prepare for Induction Day

I’ve been thinking about Induction Day and before it’s too late, wanted to share a few thoughts. I appreciate the honesty on this board, but if you feel compelled to comment with something that includes the work “snowflake” or something similar, please exercise some self-control and move on...

    Sea Trials Underway!

As I post this, the Class of 2020 is half way through Sea Trials! From what I've seen on Facebook, there was definitely a mix of anxiety, dread and excitement leading up to this. But last night, my DS said, "We're ready, we got this." And from the video I've seen so far from Stars & Stripes and...

Plebe being test for nut allergy

Those of you who know me know my son got DQ'd several times before we finally got through the waiver process. Well here we are 2/3 of the way through Plebe year and the Academy has scheduled him to be tested again for nut allergies. Anyone have experience with something like this while...

    R.I.P., MurfTheSurf

Just saw on Facebook that MurfTheSurf passed away last night. :( Prayers for his plebe son and the rest of his family.

    Now that he's accepted ...

Will he get an I-Day packet in the mail or do we have to download and print all the documents?

Waiver process has him going to an allergist

OK, so my son has a very mild nut allergy. He eats peanuts, gets a mild scratchy feeling in his throat that mitigates, without medication in about 15-20 minutes. No other symptoms. So, of course, DoDMERB DQs him immediately, but he gets a conditional appointment to the USNA. DoDMERB requests...
