My only agenda as a current active duty officer is constantly calibrating my own moral compass as necessary and abiding by my own set of ethical standards that are not explicit in the constitution. I do have my personal reservations, but it would be remiss to entirely ignore these conversations...
I want to pick your brains for a bit if you don't mind.
How can you justify the alleged actions that have taken place by these men?:
Maj. Mathew L. Golsteyn, an Army Special Forces officer who was facing murder charges for killing an unarmed Afghan he believed was a Taliban bomb maker.
Mr...
I was wondering what y'all think of these pardons? As a current active duty officer, I wanted to see what the general consensus of the president's actions have been on the morale and ethics process for the US Military...
Hi all,
I'm a current senior in college, ready to commission this coming May. I got assigned as 62E (Developmental Engineer) at Hanscom AFB (Boston!), MA.
I'm still unsure if I want to just do minimum service commitment and get out or stay in at do 20+ years. Regardless, I know that at...
I genuinely appreciate this message & advice. I was raised ultra-conservative; good-ole apple-pie American perspectives governed our family values and conversations for the entirety of my life. Especially that my grandmother fled political persecution under Fidel Castro in Cuba, she and her...
I represented my detachment in this year's LEDx Leadership Symposium in Maxwell AFB/ACSC early January. The theme was Diversity at the Intersection of Leadership. The Air University leadership invited various guest speakers including a Gender Studies expert/professor from Cambridge University...
Thanks for all your inputs. I would love to go back to my previous internship at a major defense contracting firm (worked at their Advanced Concepts Lab ~"skunkworks"), but I doubt they will hire me knowing that I'll likely be out in <10 weeks.
Any tips on moving/renting/buying things for your...
My NCOIC told us that the AF won't tell us no further out than 1 month before for our EADs (historically for our det). I know someone who had to EAD a week after commissioning/graduating and others a few weeks to a few months. Can't get a summer job because of the unpredictability of the EAD dates.
I believe 32E is Civil? OP is EE. Also, I never heard from any officers I've spoken to during career fairs and those whom I've individually reached out to who acknowledged that there is a "ton" of real/hands-on engineering - rather, supervisory roles. Either way, RED HORSE looks like a cool...
Current AS400 & electrical and computer engineer.
I just got my AFSC last week as 62E (developmental engineer)!
First, there is very little "real" engineering job in the AF. Most of the developmental engineers work closely with 63's to supervise engineering projects, contracted out to private...
Current AFROTC senior (AS400/engineer) with a few advice
1. Time management is KEY
Treat ROTC as your second job (primary being a student). You will have less time to pursue other things (social or academic) unlike your peers. Realize this early on and take care of yourself, but also make sure...
This is not true. I'm a current AS400 with a full access to my MyPay portal. My advice is to have him work with his NCO to get his paperwork in order. I've been getting my monthly stipends as well as my textbook stipend.
I think completely discrediting the effort (AF)ROTC students put into their academic AND ROTC as well as any extracurricular or social activities is ill-considered. As an engineer pursuing electrical engineering / computer science, I know I worked like it was the finals week almost every week...
Hi all,
Got selected to be interviewed for the CW/CC position for next semester. I was hoping if you had any advice and/or documents (OPLAN, handbook, insights) for me in preparation for the interview.
If you are a POC, I'd appreciate what CW/CC can do to help the detachment run smoothly. If...
I usually find textbooks online as PDFs or buy second hand from upperclassmen who have taken the class previously. I haven't used my textbook stipend to buy a textbook since sophomore year
Today I was informed that the textbook stipend for scholarship cadets with AFROTC will increase to $900 from $600 (or $450/semester). I'll be able to afford another chapter of my engineering textbook.
I'm a current AS400 and was in charge of FTP for my detachment a few semesters back.
Your friend is spot on. The better prepared you are, the less room you leave for the CTAs to correct you. Having the WK and other training materials as a solid foundation, being in a good place mentally is...
