    AFROTC Flight Training Wait Times?

He applied for an Engineering job and they hired him even though they knew he'd be leaving. He actually did something like AutoCad on Amazon Buildings for big commercial construction company. He had a Mechanical Engineering degree.

    AFROTC Flight Training Wait Times?

My son had graduated in May and began in March of the following year. They will be notified via their DET I believe. He reported in March and began actual UPT in July (no IFT needed for him)

What AF ROTC program would you recommend?

My son went to the University of Georgia-- loved the school and it's atmosphere. He joined their AFROTC program (DET160) and had the most wonderful experience, which sometimes, it's what the student makes of it too. He was in their Honor Guard, which was also a fabulous experience. He also...

    Well, on to Plan B

My son went to AIM. Applied to the USCGA and in March of 2016, on the final round of decisions, got the NO. He went with PLAN B as I learned here, have other options. He was accepted to a major university here in Georgia and on orientation day, went straight to the AFROTC table and signed up...

    Initial Flight Training

This thread is soooooooooooo spot on with everything I am reading. My AFROTC son had his PPL, so did not have to go to IFT. I had a friend who's son dropped UPT just a few flights after his dollar ride. He did not care for flying at all. UPT is going to have tons of struggles. I think...

    AFOQT Exam

You're very welcome. We are very proud.....training is almost complete in that big and beautiful aircraft. It's been a long 6/7 years (from AFROTC TO UPT)--- but it's almost done!

Help! My parents don't want me to be a pilot after graduation. How do I convince them otherwise?

Go after what you want to do! I 100% dislike flying. White knuckle it every flight. When my son came home from college freshman year and asked if we'd pay for flight lessons, he was thinking of trying for a pilot slot, I cringed. But it's not my life to live. He succeeded. He has a...

    General ROTC question for newbie

My son was in Honor Guard at a major (and winning ;) )SEC school and his 3rd year he also was in the marching band and head of Honor Guard and an Engineering Major. He did not receive his scholarship until his 2nd year in college. His first year he only had his in-state, state scholarship.

    OTS College Major

I so agree with the above! A young lady who my son commissioned with, was a communications major and now is a C-17 pilot as well. Find what you love and look into jobs in that field in the civilian world.

    Getting in

I highly suggest trying to get into AIM. My son wanted to go military since he was 10. He was accepted to AIM and that totally sealed the deal. He had all the right credentials when he applied, but was not accepted on the final round of decisions. He went with his Plan B. All the best to you!

    AIMster's Experience??

My son went to AIM in gosh, 2014 or 2015. This DID seal the deal for him as he absolutely loved it. He wanted to go into the military since he was about 10--- He watched videos and such to prepare himself mentally. Yes, he, and others were yelled at quite a bit. Unfortunately, when it was time...

Do you love your ROTC program?

My son graduated at The University of Georgia with BS in Mechanical Engineering. Commissioned with AFROTC. HUGE school but small detachment which he loved.

    AFROTC Experience

Keep focused. Pressures that can get you in trouble by living independently are high. My son went to University of GA and it is a huge party school, so there was lot's of pressure to go into bars underage. He'd have nothing to do with it. Would sit outside and people watch while friends would...

Ideas to show interest in Engineering

My son graduated a civilian university in Mechanical Engineering. He did apply USCGA and it was about being a well rounded, great GPA, active, time management balanced, etc. He also duel enrolled in a community college as well.

    Air Force ROTC Commander Scholarship

He was awarded this. He never applied. I believe there were 2 cadets that were offered it. If he had accepted it, he had to contract.

    Female Pilots

My son just graduated from UPT. Had 2 females graduate in his class. The after party that night, there were a few other females that graduated a few weeks prior and they were all together having the best time.
