My Son Graduated SUPT (Pilot School)

Congratulations and a heartfelt Boiler Up! to you and your son. Once they hear the news, my DS and the other Purdue Space Ops officers who commissioned with yours will likely pass along the same good wishes and feel just as proud.

    ROTC uniform

DS told us this weekend he is not buying his Detachment-issued AF dress uniform and wants/needs to buy dress blues and mess dress. As others parents have mentioned, we'd like to help him out and buy his uniform(s) as a commissioning/graduation gift but don't know where to start (and assume we're...

    Commissioning Date

DS also at Purdue. Not knowing exactly which of six degree program "divisions" over 3 days the Aero/Astro Engineering graduates will walk, we had to book a 4 day/3 night, Thursday through Sunday stay to cover commissioning and commencement.

    Running Shoes

Get yourself measured and your running/striking style assessed professionally and then get a pair of Hoka One One's (brand name). They will likely have a number of different models that meet your requirements (as well as color choice). You won't regret it.

    Plan "B" Reality

DS will be commissioning (AFROTC) in spring 2018 and will be completing his Form 53 in the next few weeks. Plan "A" was to be a Pilot, but despite achieving all that was necessary to get a rated slot, he was DQ'd on Day 2 of the F1 medical exam back in April due to an unwaiverable eye issue...

AFROTC LEAD (Field Training) Bag Drag

I'm guessing that my DS would recommend a solid lock AND well-thought and executed method for tightly closing and locking your bag. DS completed field training last summer and told us there was a Flight Training Officer or CTA working rather hard to pull something out of his bag upon arrival...

Anyone going to Purdue University to do NROTC?

DS is OS AS300 at Purdue and in Aero/Astro Engineering. Didn't decide on AFROTC until sophomore year, but eventually got a 3 yr scholarship. As previous posters eluded to, Purdue engineering can be hard to get into and harder to get out of... particularly with the specific discipline you want...

Waiver for Eye Position Beyond Normal Limits?

After Day 2 of FC1 physical DS reports that he was DQd for pilot but passed for RPA (DQd due to eye misalignment issue... beyond "normal" limits). DS says several docs encouraged him to consider RPA and also told him that he should consider himself lucky given that 4-5 others around him were...

Waiver for Eye Position Beyond Normal Limits?

AFROTC DS with pilot slot after 2018 commissioning has wrapped up day 1 of his FC1 physical at Wright-Patterson and says his eye position is beyond normal limits. Doc recommends considering RPA as more likely to get waiver (but apparently not DQ at this point). Feedback from anyone with...

    AFROTC Summer Programs/Opportunities

The Military.com AF ROTC webpage has a summary of summer programs (e.g. ASSIST, SOARING, FREEFALL, NERE, etc.) available for cadets. Any word on whether or not such programs are actually funded for 2017? If so, where or who can one contact to find more info and how to apply? (DS says cadre...

    2017 AFROTC Rated Selection Thread

I would assume that the PCSM score is much like a 3-legged stool. If you "bomb" at any one of the three legs (AFOQT, TBAS or flight hours), it won't matter how strong the other two legs are because they won't yield an adequate score. Your numbers are great from what I've seen on this forum. As...

    2017 AFROTC Rated Selection Thread

Heard from DS that his det has 10 Pilot, 2 RPA, 1 CSO & 1 ABM. DS received Pilot with: GPA: 3.4 (Aero/Astro Engineering) PCSM: 78 PFA: 97 FT: DG RSS: ? Congratulations to all who are selected. Thank you for your commitment. As far as what's next... where and when do cadets go for their Class I...

AFROTC Pilot Slot: What Happens If...

The following is taken from info provided on the BaseOps website regarding "How to Get an AFROTC Pilot Slot": Cadet’s volunteering for ENJJPT must understand that ENJJPT is a fighter-oriented program and if successfully completed, will likely result in a fighter or bomber assignment based on Air...

    PCSM-Logging Flight Time

Thanks for the feedback and recommendations. A couple of follow-up questions... My DS has lined up a discovery flight at a nearby general aviation airport/flight school and is working with the CFIs to schedule additional PIC flight time over the next 6 weeks before Field Training. Sounds like...

    FT Pay?

Do cadets get paid while attending field training and reimbursed for transportation costs to/from Maxwell AFB? (DS not on AFROTC scholarship). Also, is there additional training (mandatory or optional) for cadets during the summer months between the junior and senior year? If not, what have...

Official 2016 AFROTC POC Selection Process Thread

Hammer Down! My DS confirms that OBM was a great experience and introduction to what he/you can expect at SFT. Anxious to hear about Max assignments; anyone know when that will occur? Also, I've seen the term "bag drag" used a few times when discussing SFT and recommendations to get some things...

Official 2016 AFROTC POC Selection Process Thread

DS said 100% at Det 220 before heading off to Camp Atterbury for Operation Boilermaker this weekend.

    PCSM-Logging Flight Time

How does one log flight hours without a PPL? I've read other posts that seem to indicate that simply taking a "discovery flight" and logging that flight time can be used/credited toward a PCSM score ($69 for 30-min ground instruction & 30-min flight in a Cessna 152 at our local general aviation...

    Field Training-BMI Issue

No offense taken. I know very little about "the life" (still don't know a UPT from a UTI) and feel the need to try and understand a few things in order to communicate intelligently with those who want to and those that already do. Thanks for the advice.
