    Early Action - Interesting Perspective

I did not apply early action because of that counselor's reasoning. I was taking my most rigorous course load my junior and senior year, and I wanted admissions to recognize how I was doing in my senior year with more advanced math and science classes (Calc & Physics, respectively.)...

USNA Class of 2021: LOA Already in June 2016!?!?!

So, not going to USNA, but I went to NASS in 2015. No one there was honored like this kid with an LOA, but people did get recognition for performance and attitude. Like people have been saying earlier, don't panic. Honestly kids like him should be honored...I did not know ANYONE as on top of it...

PFE score and performance during AIM

Also a Class of 2020. I did not go to AIM, but I did to Summer Seminar at USNA. I can tell you I sucked physically then, but the that experience was so vital to my choice of pursuing an academy. I know that USNA's SS is considered a joke (and to be honest, very obviously a recruitment tool to...

    Wait listers

For CFAD, consider getting in contact w/ coaches if your DS/DD is looking into recruitment. They can usually put your name in for a special athletic CFAD where only athlete recruits are invited. I did that last year and was able to visit USCGA for the first time through that.

    Contact lenses, etc. during AIM

Did not go to AIM but I will be a swab this summer. Something to keep in mind is that disease can spread quickly in environments like the one your kid is going into, so if they're going to use contacts, maybe keep hand sanitizer handy. Pink eye spreads because dirty hands come in contact with...

    Chance of getting into USCGA?

Start off with a simple email to the coach. Introduce yourself, express your interest in CGA, and attach a resume with your general info (height/weight/DOB/etc.), ECA's, high school schedule (namely, junior and senior year), and even a transcript if you can (if you can't, then just give an...

    Chance of getting into USCGA?

Practice. All swabs will be tested again at the beginning of swab summer, and I would like to start off with a good score right off the bat. Additionally, I will be taking the PFE when I'm at the academy once a semester, and it's good exercise since we'll be doing lots of running and push...

    Chance of getting into USCGA?

Hello, I'm a 2020 appointee. I had a 30 ACT and was a recruited athlete, so if you can, consider recruitment. Coach's recommendation can really make a difference, when you're put head-to-head with applicants very similar to you that don't have a coach's recommendation. I don't know how seriously...

    Which Major to Choose?

Hello fellow future-classmate. I'm in the same position but more about MES. I'm entering as an intended-MES major, but I'm thinking ORCA. One thing I like about the academies is that usually your 4/c year, you don't have a declared major, and we will all take math, science, and humanity classes...

    CGA Drug Tests

My BF is a mid at the Naval Academy and I'm attending USCGA next year. According to him, they do it randomly. At USNA it's a urine test and I assume at other academies it would be the same. All SA's have a zero-tolerance policy. It would be unethical to allow someone to abuse illegal substances...

What can i do to improve my chances?

Hello! I'm not an admissions officer or anything but I was admitted to class of 2020 (and will be attending!) I'll give you a brief overview of what my application looked like, and what you can do. You are taking a lot of really high-level courses, which is awesome. I was in the International...
