All, I hope I've answered your questions. I did this much longer then I initially thought, but it has come time for me to go back to greener pastures (Netflix). I'm going to leave this thread on a sort of good note. I hope everyone the best in their future endeavors, and if that brings you to...

After this year's scandal there won't be any pillow fights. USMA cares about its image over everything else, we got so much bad press for that night. There were also rumors it is what led to our former BTO retiring from the Army. He took responsibility for the event and was assisted out, so the...

Yes, males will take boxing as a plebe and combatives (MMA ish) as a cow.

I've heard this a ton, and the honest truth is yes it is easier in some aspect. Others it is just as hard. I spoke at length with my sponsor who was class of '84. His son was a recent grad and he freely admitted that academics nowadays are tougher. We also don't have alcohol for all classes...

I would say bring your shoes, there might be an opportunity to walk on during beast. Your best bet would be to reach out to the team and ask if they take walk ons. They might not.

I can tell you what changes have happened now. A/C weekend training is back. For the last 3 years or so, there wasn't any training on weekends and you could leave after last duty on Friday. Now you're released Saturday midday, maybe earlier if you're company put an ETP in. Alcohol is facing a...

So your son would be able to hang out with you on USMA grounds or in Highland Falls. He would not be allowed to leave the distance around USMA considered within walking privileges aka Highland Falls. You could have your son try and put an ETP in to take Off Post Privileges, that might get...

It depends on company a lot. I've always heard the rumors of companies who'd let their plebes take pass all the time. I had my 1 pass I used on a 3 day to visit home. NYC is too expensive for me. Even as a cow I still haven't used a pass this semester. It's easier to just go out to eat with...

Clubs will allow you to leave, but you also get one pass as a plebe. During one of the long weekends you could go visit your friends. That said, clubs are your best bet (or a team) if you really want to bounce every weekend. The current commandant is trying to put an end to that so it might be...

It is very, very hard. You'd need to validate a ton of courses, or do a bunch over the summer. I have heard of a language/mech double major but he was taking maxed out credit hours every semester. I'd recommend focusing on just mech otherwise you'll find yourself busy as can be.

For homeschooled students, the biggest thing I noticed was more on the social end. I don't want to come off as a jerk, but usually homeschooled cadets were the ones were didn't quite fit in as well. There's probably plenty who did so we never notice, but the real odd cadets were usually home...

The company football team is flag football and more like 7 on 7 then actual ball. I played O line and in a similar boat. They asked if I wanted to be considered and I decided not to pursue it. In my opinion, there's so much going on here academically and with the sporadic BS thrown in by higher...

It'll be annoying to start over, be older then some of those around you. Generally though, so many people do ROTC or prep you'll make friends quickly since you'll share a common experience. It'll be the same as everyone else really. You'll be with your class and age doesn't mean as much then.

I'm not sure amigo, sorry, you'd probably need to ask someone in operations once you're here. My gut feeling says no, but I am likely wrong.

You'll do them fairly often as morning PT, but after beast you just about never do them outside of your own personal workouts.

Yes, there are 'spirit passes' which allow you to leave on Saturday (woohoo A/C training HOOAH) go to the game (in uniform) and then return for recall formation for Sunday night. I typically only do it for Army Navy, but others have gone home or to NYC on spirit pass.

If you do german, spanish, or french, not too bad. If you do Russian, Arabic, or Chinese get ready for a tough semester. Engineer students don't take a 3rd semester, and the 3rd is usually the hardest.

For boots, ya'll will be in OCP so they must be coyote brown. You can wear desert tan technically but since you'll be in OCP all the time, I say stay with coyote. I don't know which ones are 'official' but for beast and the Academic Year as long as they're legit combat boots in coyote brown...

Sure. I have an old Janesport backpack from High School I still wear, it's denim, I sharpie'd the logo black, and I've had zero issues, aside from people telling me a single pocket backpack (that's typically empty) makes it look like I bring nothing with me to class.

If you like doing things with your hands, I recommend Mechanical. As a cow, you'll spend a lot of time in the machine shop creating components and gear systems. I picked Mech for similar reasons, I liked physics and tinkering with things. As for hair, if I remember right, as long as your hair...
