AROTC 3 yr scholarship and Freshman Yr GPA

My son received a 3 yr AROTC scholarship. He is also a National Guard member and has reported to Basic Training and not available for communication. His 1st year has not gone well academically. We also have a high school 2019 graduate starting college in August. We need to plan financially...

AROTC - # of collegs on application?

Thank you @clarsksonarmy! That really helps. I don't want him to look at too many schools because I think it will only confuse him. Currently, there are 15 on his list with 7 being public schools and 3 are in state. I'm thinking we plan to look physically visit at least 8 on official tours...

AROTC - # of collegs on application?

I am a parent of an 1th grade student. He wishes to join ROTC. We have received different responses for the number of colleges which he should apply. What is the limit on the ROTC scholarship application? We were told 7, but then told 5. We want this information in order to plan college...

Is an AFROTC scholarship guaranteed after SFT?

@Pima , when you state 75% cover in state tuition, what occurs when there is a variance among state schools cost? We are PA residents. There is a sizable cost/tuition difference between Penn State and PASSHE schools. There are also a sizable number of majors not offered at PASSHE schools.

The 2016-2017 board dates - starting to feel like groundhog day

@KeyzCat , I'm a freaked out Parent and mine is only a rising 11th grader! The entire process is a bit overwhelming. Thanks to the fine members of this board, I know we'll get a game plan and make it through. Hoping to meet @clarksonarmy in person during the process. Clarkson is definitely...

Overwhelmed Mom of High School student

@txpotato, His GPA will not be high enough for a scholarship from Bama. His brother is currently a student there and he will be applying regardless of no merit money. Even paying full price OOS tuition, UA is relative in cost to our in-state options of Pitt or Penn State Erie since our...

@Sled , ND School of Mines is on the current list. It is cheaper than our in state schools. His former Headmaster lives in MN and he would not mind at all going there. Of course, it is easier to say that before you experience a winter there.

Thank you all! @ENwifeArmyMom , Widener is one that I was considering nixing because without a ROTC scholarship it is more than we can swing financially. Maybe I'll reconsider. He has several friends who will be starting there in August. I also am not a fan of the area. @USMA 1994 , my...

Thanks for the responses. The ACT and SAT are very conservative estimates as he scored near that in 7th grade and based on 10th grade PSAT. Not over estimating those at all. As a matter of fact, I think the scores will hurt him at some colleges since his GPA is out of line. That is where the...

Overwhelmed Mom of High School student

Hi. Thanks to all of you who contribute to this forum. My son is a rising 11th grade student. His goal is to attend college for engineering and be in either AFROTC or AROTC. I've helped many kids with college planning, but this is my first time looking at ROTC. My son had many personal...
