Yes, NOLS is expensive, but they allowed the mid to pay for her equipment rental after she got her loan. She mentioned in an email just yesterday that it had been the highlight of her summer trainings and that she'd do it again in a heartbeat. She did the Wind River, WY trip.

Here's another encouraging story: My dd had LOA but no nom to AFA and 2 noms to USNA plus LOA. We were able to get the second nom to USNA switched to AFA. Our rep's office thought "2 noms would give her a better chance". Um, no, because she already HAD the LOA... And then she picked USNA anyway...

I have a question for a young man in our Scout troop. He has severe peanut allergies and I always thought the academies were out for him. However, my ensign says that she had a friend in her company with peanut allergies. So, are they waiverable?

I have a Mid that will be doing an exchange to AFA spring semester. Navy has a great parent's list that is helpful for keeping up on dates of leave, etc. Does AFA have the same thing? Trying to contact our Mid is hard because of poor cell service in Bancroft Hall--I'm guessing that reception...
