    Housing allowance during grad leave?

I'm filling out the PCS paperwork for my ensign assignment right now. At least for the class of 2023, we are getting 30 days of leave + travel days. So if you are going to Alameda, you'll get 9 travel days (assuming you elect to drive there) in addition to your 30 days of leave. The Academy is...

    CGA First assignments?

I wouldn't say the Student Engineering billets are always harder to get per say. There are fewer of them, but also fewer people want them!

    CGA First assignments?

Most assignments are to a Cutter as a Deck Watch Officer or Student engineer. These billets are 2 year tours. Sector prevention assignments and CG Cyber are both 3 years long. Flight school takes around 2 years.

Back up plan if Swab Summer didn't work out??

The class of 2025 started swab summer with 291 and they lost about 8 swabs over their summer; meaning their swab summer retention was 97%. That's very very high, my class was about ~90% retention I believe. Either way though, no one really gets 'kicked out' over the summer. The only people who...

    CGA Laundry

There's three laundry rooms in Chase Hall that don't cost anything for cadets to use. Cadets do all their own laundry, with the exception of dry cleaning which cadets pay for out of pocket. (4/c can only use this for specific items like their dress pants and jacket). During swab summer, cadre...

USCGA EE Major - Level of Difficulty and Degree of Retention

EEs and Cybers take a lot of courses together 3/c year. The main cyber class I've taken this year has been my worst class grade wise, but it doesn't come close to my EE exclusive class this semester in terms of course load, so take that as you will. I can say my friends in cyber probably have a...

USCGA EE Major - Level of Difficulty and Degree of Retention

So I'm a 3/c EE major, and to be honest I couldn't be happier this semester is coming to a close. It was very challenging academically, and made more difficult by many of my classes being held exclusively online. For one class in particular, it was not uncommon for 6-problem nightly homeworks to...

    Bad Semester

Depends on the context. If the Academy feels that you have strong leadership potential (lots of extracurriculars and leadership positions), but need to develop more academically, they might offer you prep school. You can also "self-prep" at either a military prep school or just community college...

    USCGA Cadet Pay ?

The standard base pay for cadets is $1,116 a month, after all the fees, deductions, and taxes it comes out to about $800 a month BEFORE the ICA loan payback. The ICA loan is about ~$10,000 dollars, it varies a bit year to year. So after accounting for the ICA loan payback as well, the cadet...

    Awareness - Current USCGA Operations

Right, a couple people dropping from '24 this year is more than have dropped from '23... We lost quite a bit more over swab summer though, which would explain why we've lost fewer during the school year than '24.

    Low AP Physics Grade

I got a C in high school chemistry and managed to get in, so I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker. He just needs to focus on what he currently has control over, and that's getting the best grades he can next year.

Tips from a CGA grad + question

Sleeping bag definitely not allowed. A lot of us slept in our bathrobes to stay warm last summer. The duct tape also wouldn't work during the summer because cadre toss your room everyday and would not be happy to see you using it. During the school year both are fine.

Denials then following year appt to CGA experience please!

I applied to 2022 and got waitlisted then denied. Then I reapplied for 2023 and got accepted outright. I went to a small engineering school on my Air Force ROTC scholarship and participated in that program for a year. When I went there I had no intention of reapplying for the Academy and ended...

    USCGA interview

I applied for the class of 2022 and was waitlisted. I didn't do an interview for that application. I applied for the class of 2023 and also did not get to do an interview. I was accepted for this class. I wouldn't look into it too deeply, it is entirely possible to get in without an interview...

    USCGA interview

I wouldn't worry about the timing, an interview request is pretty much always a good thing. I'd say about 90% of my classmates this year did an interview.

    Ap credit?

You take placement tests over swab summer for calculus and that's how they can validate. Those placement tests are all they look at, not AP scores.

No interview request.. Is that a bad sign?

I'm a reapplicant from college that found out on the 22nd.
