It depends largely upon what other schools you've been accepted at and what major you intend to pursue, e.g., if you intend to pursue engineering and have been accepted to Cal Tech, that's a no brainer. AND you also need to recognize that the service academies are not what they used to be in...

No brainer ... logistics and security makes you far more employable when/if you decide to come ashore. Also much more attractive to grad schools (similar to the engineering programs ... which are more rigorous).

This is totally erroneous. There would/will be be no USAFA the day after they decide to produce 10 pilots a year. As to going to USMMA hoping to become an AF pilot, I would not encourage. It's simply a bad fit. Your son should either attend USAFA or accept an USAF ROTC scholarship someplace...

I think the letter could have elaborated a bit more on the great "shore side"/industry opportunities that are available to USMMA grads. Perhaps a bit more on grad school too. I found that being a USMMA grad was attractive to many of the grad schools I applied to ... although this cuts both...
