    Letter of Assurance

I completed the application in mid August, but after getting new ACT scores from September 9 I reached out to my admissions counselor and had them put my file on hold until the new scores were updated, which happened ~September 25.

    Letter of Assurance

This morning I received an email notifying me that I have received an LOA for USNA class of 2022! I haven’t seen a thread for this, does one exist already?

    Advice for High School

As far as USNA goes, the “writing” or “essay” section is neither required nor recommended. It isn’t even shown on the portal if you take it. When I spoke on the phone with an admissions counselor from USAFA, she said that it is not looked at heavily, as they assess writing ability from the...

    ACT

The only scores that show up in the portal are English and Math. Reading, Science, and Writing were NOT included in the portal. From this I am led to believe that they only look at English and Math.

Burger Wars, Round ??? Summer 2017

On my last visit to USNA we stopped at a place in Alexandria near Reagan Nat'l Airport called Holy Cow. Just happened to find it but it quickly became a serious contender for the best burger I've ever had. The sauce on the Southern was game changing...

    Summer Reading, Military Theme, 2017

Definitely a Navy book, but Sea Power by Admiral James Stavridis has been awesome so far. I'm about half way through and I love how he talks about not only the history of each body of water but also his own experience with each and how they are currently impacting the world

    CFA at NASS

I'm at NASS as well. From what I understand they never tell you what score your raw score turned into on their scale, but luckily you can ask around and get a gauge for how you did!

    ACT Scores

The Naval Academy super scores, so they will only look at your best performance in each category.

    Car Accident!

The ticket. I'm not sure where/why there would be a record of an accident with no ticket attached. Their was an insurance payout

    Car Accident!

I was in an accident and got a ticket for failure to yield to a stop sign shortly after I got my license, but was put on differed sentencing and went the year without a ticket, so it was not recorded on my record. Should mention this in my application or not?

    Advanced Classes

As a general rule taking harder classes and getting a few B's is better than taking basic classes and getting all A's, correct?

    Advanced Classes

Thanks all for your advice. I will be taking the ACT again to try to boost the math score. Badfinger they weight AP classes but not Honors or Advanced classes, though I have never understood why.

    Advanced Classes

I just know that I could be ranked higher (top in my class) if I would take easier classes. I choose to take harder classes, but it results in me getting a few B's and dropping me down. I want to do anything to be as competitive as possible, especially being from Colorado which is very...

    Advanced Classes

Extracurriculars include Knowledge Bowl team captain (second place in state), FBLA State Leadership Conference 3 years, NHS, Eagle Scout, High Adventure Committee Chairman for Scouts, and a finalist in the Caring For Our Watersheds program to promote responsible water use. For athletics I am the...

    Advanced Classes

Does the Academy take into consideration the course load you have? I am in the top 5% of my class, but due to the fact that I took more challenging courses than a lot of people (Advanced Chemistry, Pre-AP Biology, AP Literature, all Honors math courses), I am not the very top. That being said...

    Aero/Mechanical Engineering Double Major

Thanks for the info! Do you think they would validate a first level English course for taking a second level class?

    Aero/Mechanical Engineering Double Major

    What about English 121?

    Aero/Mechanical Engineering Double Major

I anticipate validating an English credit from AP Literature and Composition- as well as taking English 121 at a local community college, a Math credit from the AP Calculus class, and potentially an AP Physics credit.
